Description I don't believe that the Soyuz-class gets enough love if you ask me. The first time we ever saw this type of ship was in that TNG episode about the time loop and the USS Bozeman keeps hitting that damn Enterprise-D over and over again. The USS Bozeman(NCC-1941) in the only cannon representative of the little known Soyuz-class. There is hardly any cannon sources that gives a lot of information on this class of vessel. Only that it was put out of service sometime in the mid to late 2280's. When I look at this vessel, it screams to be "science vessel". It really looks like that it's used for scientific research and perhaps as a test bed for new technologies Starfleet was investing in. It would make sense that this class of ship was used in such a role. So I wanted to do my own version of the Soyuz-class where it has a more useful look to it than just a science vessel. One of the things that really bugged me about it was that it had no torpedo launchers. Nearly all vessels at less has one torpedo launcher of some kind. I had to design my own torpedo launchers that were fixed into that large dome-like module right under the saucer section. At less now that this version has more of a bite to it in case of combat situations. All of this ship and its nacelles and other bits I put together. had made a very good and detailed layout of the Soyuz-class so the credit goes to him for providing the best visual representation in pixel form. In my take, several of the surviving Soyuz-class ships went through upgrades in the early 2290's to keep up with other Starfleet vessels. They would serve as tactical cruisers and research vessel to test out new and classified technologies for Starfleet and possibly Section 31. A mobile test bed and laboratory for Starfleet with some of the more sensitive materials and equipment, this variant would at less give life to the Soyuz-class for at less another decade or more.
