Description
Had some fun with night shots. This is a 5 minute shot. Fired the flash a few times from each side with a warming gel.
Had to do some serious noise reduction in the sky.
For those that were wondering, the reason some of the small star trails are segmented, is because (I think) clouds moved in front of the stars for a part of the exposure, thus blocking the light.
I see that I have reached 10k page views. Thanks for all the support

Wonderful scenery, great picture. Amazing light and colours, an almost surreal mood.

Out of curiosity how do you focus in the dark? Silly question im sure but I have the worst trouble focusing in almost no light situations. Im assuming you focused on the tree. did you use a flashligh for the autofocus? what aperture did you use and what iso? This i the kind of shot i have been trying for over a year and still cant figure out no matter how many tutorials i read.

Yeah I used a flashlight on the tree for the focus. f/4 iso 800, 5 minutes. Trial and error until you get the exposure right

Some noise reduction in the sky, and from there mostly just basic adjustments like contrast, saturation and stuff like that. No composites. The use of flash and a really long exposure did most of the work

Very creative w/ the flash! Did you manually fire the flash in that 5min span?

Yeah, manually fired the flash. I was on the one side and my friend on the other with his flash.

Warming gel has worked really well here man, and that burst of light above the horizon, along with the stars are superb!
