Description CHAPTER 2 IS OUT. [HERE IT IS.]

-

[Firstly, I should mention that deviantART is ANNOYING because it doesn't let you specify the preferred dimensions of Flash files; therefore this is WAY too small! It's shown bigger on my site, here: [link]

-

I am EXTREMELY happy with this!
It's a Flash game that I made entirely by myself! Essentially everything in it is by me; the graphics (vectors AND rasters), story, coding, music, that planet... The only thing I didn't make is the sound effects; I got those from some free sound effects websites years ago, but I don't know which ones specifically because I've had the sounds on my computer for years!

Anyway, this is an RPG. Instructions are provided within.

I'd GREATLY appreciate it if you'd give me GOOD feedback; that it, something a bit more than just "this is cool"! I DID spend countless hours of this, y'know, and it'd be good to know what people think of it.

MARDEK will be a series of 8 chapters; this is the first, introductory one, and as such it's rather short (for an RPG). The others will be several times longer.

Anyway, tell me what you think!! (Especially about the music!)

-

Oh, and I made this (Fig Hunter Games is my own site), but it was *sponsored* oh so kindly by [link]
They paid me money, so give them a visit!

This turned out wonderfully. The only thing I got annoyed with was that the large maps moved slower... but that could just be my compy. And that's nothing too major. I'm not sure what I could tell you otherwise to assist. I don't know the coding involved, which means you have my utmost respect for this work, and that anything you have gotten, is phenomenal.

The plotline is intriguing, and it kept me going. I'm especially fond of the yellow alien. And I loved Rohoph's attempts at trying to find words for what was going on. I'm sure that his explanation would go over so well with his mom...lol

pseudolonewolf, I played the game from your website and I was blown away, I didn't have the faintest idea this was even possible with Flash.

Something happened tho when I finished the game, the screen that pops up at the end, the one that encourages you to save your game? In the background (hidden) the menu is active, so the menu buttons are working (skills/inventory etc).

oh geez I'm worthless at describing.

Looking forward to the next release ^^

I actually really like the Britishisms, and I adored Deugan. He grows up to have the sex appeal, lol. The Dragon was beautiful, and so was the animation of everything. I also loved how the facial expressions change in dialogue, and how when you pick different answers the facial expression can change to go with.

Lovely job, and I'll be back for more!

Heh, I remember some of the ALMOST ALL MALE commenters on Newgrounds (where I also submitted this) complaining about how Deugan looked, like "he looks like a girl" or "DUDE DEUGAN IS SO GAY" or even "Deugan's hair is STOOPID bcuz it covars 1 side of his faec!!" or something.
Isn't that totally interesting!? o_O

Bah, they're just jealous. Not everybody gets to have the refined French Prince look.

Awesome game. Very addictive. I wanted to try it for fun and ended up playing to the very end.

It is obvious that a lot of hard work and effort was put into making this. The music adds to the fun and I love the graphics. The use of skill and quality are easily expressed throughout the game.

One thing that was somewhat annoying is that certain situations contained a lot of dialog. I almost didn't feel like reading all of it, but it wasn't too bad.

The game is also very fair. Mostly challenging but not ridiculously difficult. A larger variety of opponents, items and structures would be nice but you may already be working on that for the continuation or you may just want to limit how big the game actually gets.

Great job.

At first it seemed a little lame. But after about 5-10 minutes of play i saw the amount of detail you put into this. For one person to do all this is simply amazing.

I tip my hat to you *looks for hat tipping emote* Damn there isnt one that i can see =/

Well done, I expect allot from the other chapters. you have it set up to have a sort of choose your own element and possibly even a relationship element to the game (tell me if I'm just letting my imagination run wild). I would try to get rid of the mouse and some times by pressing x to get out of something you start it up again so you can't exit without clicking. Good dialog, the alternate personality guy talks almost exactly like me

I've never made anything like this (have no idea how and no one will tell me *pouts*) But i can tell it must have taken alot of work. Good job! I'm faving this.

People who say that are the best types of people!
I mean, the game's more about the dialogue than anything else... It rather annoys me when people just SKIP it all, which many people seem to do... But why would you play an RPG if you didn't care about the plot? o_O
Anyway, you are a good person for reading and liking the dialogue!

It is the best homemade rpg i have seen, and congrats for finishing chapter 1.
The music is fantastic lol, its really like being in a FF game or something (just for example). Alot of the dialogs are pretty funny aswell, but there is still a story happening, which I liked. The map is huge 0_o it must have taken you forever lol. The cut scenes were surprisingly good, like usually you see really bad ones, but your were really great. I cant really think of anything bad lol, which is a good thing. Once again, I applaud you on the soundtrack ^^

You deserved the daily deviation. Great job.

What "someone" where you talking to? I've heard reports of people getting trapped by Deugan after he's finished speaking about the Fallen Star, but only some people seem to get it and I can't reproduce it so I don't know how to fix it...
You can "fix" it though by just reloading the game and loading your auto-saved game... Assuming that you saved the game at least once. Hm.

My gosh this is awesome, played to the end...need more NOW!!! Just kidding, but seriously, I can't fathom how long that took you.

A few minor things that I noticed without trying to nitpick, the major one for me is "x" being the activate key, space or "e" would work better in my mind with the wasd configuration. Possibly incorporate a custom button configuration setup, not quite sure how hard that would be.
Also, being able to ditch the mouse would be good, maybe used for the dialogue , but even right now it's not necessary. The reason I say this is mostly within combat, it's really annoying to be a veteran list jockey and be slowed down by repetitive clicking. I'm fairly sure you could incorporate the arrow keys into it instead. On that note, the back button is a bit small/inconspicuous, a back arrow would solve this quite nicely, that, or a slightly bigger button.
One last thing, when entering the shops, I noticed I had to hit the action button two three times before dialogue would initiate, don't know what would cause that, just something of note that could be annoying later on.

All in all a very impressive game, the base engine is there. I can't wait to see the shops later and what you do with the story.

Pseudolonewolf In reply to Maddy-Inc [2007-07-05 20:29:14 +0000 UTC]

I really don't know why I didn't just add keyboard instead of mouse control from the beginning since basically EVERYONE seems to prefer it... I suppose adding button press events is just easier in Flash...
But I've redone things in chapter 2 to use the keyboard instead of the mouse now!
I'm also considering adding a thing which asks you if you want to use X or some other key when you start the game... But it might require a lot of small changes throughout the code... I'll probably do it anyway though. Yes.

Secret-Night In reply to ??? [2007-07-04 02:48:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm.... I would have to say that having to juggle the mouse and keys during battle and wordly things and whatnot was a bit inconveniencing.... You learn to live with it, but it would be better if an easier, quicker method could be established.

That said, I applaud this chapter. ^____^ It's almost Final Fantasy-ish, in style and everything, and it was really fun to play. The music was good, too. The aliens and the medieval world make for an interesting twist that suprisingly isn't tacky. I also like that there are humorous elements to this.

Oh my goodness. I know you must've gotten so many comments exactly like this, but I am soo very impressed. The graphics are great (big grin ), and I was pleased by the music. It's so perfect for the game. I was tickled by the amazing turnout of such a big project...doing everything yourself has definitely got to be a pretty big undertaking. And it's definitely nostalgic, but with it's own fresh new elements. I also love the cheesy but amusing dialogue. You added just the perfect elements of cliche. Again, you did a magnificent job, and you've certainly knocked my socks off. The daily deviation was well deserved

This was fun. I absolutely love RPGs, so long as they keep me interested. This one totally kept me entertained till the end of the chapter. I liked the dialogue and I really thought that what happened after you fought the dragon was neat. I really thought the "Imagination" action was really cool, too. Nicely done.

As for the music, my favourite is the music in the menu screen. Really sounds... iunno.. medieval-ish or something. Quite enjoyed that. Throughout the whole game the music was well done. Which program did you use, may I ask?

Great job. Can't wait for the next chapter

For the music, I use a compositionising program called "Sibelius".
Are you perhaps vaguely interested in composing your own music, or did you just ask out of curiosity?
