Description Note: This is for reference only. Feel free to disagree with anything I wrote. Also, this really doesn't apply to animal characters, sorry!
I think every artist starts out using the same face for everything. Some learn to grow out of it, some retain it as a crutch. Also, if you are making a webcomic, manga or comic, it helps the reader out a lot if the faces are different. I won't mention any certain ones, but I know of a webcomic that the only way you can tell characters apart is by their hair. That is not a good thing. o_o

I might make part two.

I have this problem and I hate it. I just plain can't draw and when I can i get frustrated. Drawing frustrates me. I hate it. In fact, I'm so pissed right now that i can't draw. Bah. >

See, I have this problem too.

I've found that drawing a turn-around of the character (basically, a full body front, side and back view) as well as drawing their face and various expressions can help you out. I don't normally suggest this, but find a favorite character and try drawing him or her from different angles and making them look the same. Once you can do that, then take your character and do the exact same thing.

Even the best artists have trouble with consistency. There's plenty of manga out there where the character doesn't always look the same in every panel, but it is something to work towards. You just have to draw the character A LOT.

I was thinking of this very tutorial earlier today while looking at someone's 'character line-up'... I had to read the artist's comments to know if it was one person trying one different clothes and hairstyles, or if it was multiple people.

Oddly enough a google search for "sameface" will yield results about duck-face and down-syndrome people.

I personally think that you should have added a few more drawings; but this is just a suggestion. Anyhow good tutorial!

ooh! no more sameface syndrome for tay-chan! this helps a lot more than you'd think... alot of my propes faces only vary by the size of the eyes, and how arched the top eyelid is...
