Description To clarify, I would've said "A game's quality can be good or bad", but that's too black and white. Some games are good, some are bad, some are decent, and some are GOTY, but that's extremely opinionated, like this played out argument. Point is, a game doesn't suddenly become good or bad later on when you change your opinion about it, which we should all know when SA2 is the main game out of the Sonic series that gets this argument, that's just being silly. All you have to say is you liked the game was when you were younger and don't like it now that you're older, don't try to act like it's the game's fault for you change of taste. There's another option to though: Just admit you didn't like said game from the start.

actually, things can age poorly, especially in a franchise. But usually that's a good thing, because that means a franchise has gotten better with time, and we don't have to "settle for what we can get"

for instance, I don't like the original legend of zelda. I love link to the past, but the original NES zelda kinda blows in how you HAVE to have a map just to survive (I wouldn't mind if it were just to find secrets, but the map is required to stay alive) I'm sure it was great in the past, when there was nothing to compare it too, but nowadays, there are much better games in the series

Games don't change with time. The gameplay from the same game is still the same regardless of how much time has passed. The only thing that has changed over time is your standards. Enough said.

true, but that still proves my point. If a game cannot live up to the standards of today, then it has not aged well

The game hasn't "aged" though. Games don't age at all. Your opinion does though. The only thing that has aged in this situation is your opinion or standards. The game is still the same regardless. A game that also doesn't live up to your standards doesn't speak for "the standards of today".

The problem is that people use this argument as to make it out as a game suddenly turning bad when it was just a change in their own taste. Even in a franchise, yes, newer games can be much better then older ones, that still doesn't change the quality of said older ones, especially when you opinion of it was different beforehand.

Go figure. I don't really stop liking games that often.
