Because Apple suck arse!I have a distain for Apple Mac. They are elitist, shallow and discourage people from getting too technically minded. In every American film or TV show, the only computers used are Macs. They are seen as designer items as opposed to the wonderful piece of technology it should be. They refuse to be compatible with anything and see it as a good thing. They have only just started using x86 processor architecture... congratulations Apple, welcome to modern computing. Do you want a medal or something?
The only reason they are pretty much invulnerable on the net is not because it is more secure than Windows, itβs because nobody writes viruses for Macs as they are not as numerous as Windows or Linux boxes. The only positive thing about them is that they run on UNIX somewhere under all that frivolous excess and there are a few more games with Mac releases than with Linux releases.
The only reason the Mac OS runs so well on Macs is because Mac control every part of the hardware and software to make sure everything runs how they intend it too. Windows on the other hand is a marvel of software engineering. It is designed to run on any number of unknown hardware and software configurations. It can run under so many different hardware formats that the manufacturer has no control or say over that it is only to be expected to crash every now and then. If the Mac OS was allowed to be compiled for anyone to use there would be so many issues with it that it would be unusable by the everyday user.
There are many more and better mp3 players out there that are far cheaper than iPods and yet people see them as the ONLY mp3 players. If I some how turned into my draconic form, the first thing I would do is burn as many iPods as possible.

Should I tell people that you actually own a Mac?
Hollywood uses Macs in films because they look nice - did this never occur to you?
Do you know that Macs start at really low prices, they are more secure than the average Linux box and are fully compatible with all other computers' filesystems - I think you actually do.
In what way is using an x86 processor a modern thing? They have been around since 1986 (hence the name to you who never suspected) and are forced to be backward compatible and hence have dreadful instruction sets. I see it as a step sideways more than forwards.
iPods are famous because of Apple's succesful marketing. Nobody is forced to buy one - if you go into a High-Street shop or an online retailer there are many different MP3 players available, some maybe better than the iPod. However people buy what they perceive is the best or most fashionable. Apple's marketing department is better than other MP3 player companies' and so they win. Simple. It's all about selling - I expect they teach that somewhere...

as much as macs can be complete bitches, i have to admit that the are very user friendly to none to advanced users. but nothing can ever beat the gaming compatabillity of a MS PC even linux for all it's custom setups and shit still can gardly stand as a substitude, i'm a windows user, and i'm not a switcher.

I always thought iPods were supposed to be good and popular. I've never had one because the only place I ever go, appart from in front of my computer, is work, and I have a simple mini-disk player for my pocket while I'm there.

Well It did
I own a MAC G5 now and I love it, I play guildwars on it as well as a dozen other PC games with no issue (oh how I love the cloned OS ability of the mac) and as for the graphics and design things I do I like the knowledge that I can upgrade my software safe in the knowledge that the computer isn't going to throw a hissy fit.
and I've already upgraded it becuase there was a fault on the soundcard
I also own another two PC's one running MS xp the other some linus thing which just shows how much I like using linux

A PC is just hardware without an OS to control it. The OS not only alows the PC to be used but desegnates exactly how the software and user comunicate with the hardawre. In short, it is haow the dmned thing will work. The OS is THE most importanth thing abouve the hardware and BIOS.

None right now as my own PC is in storage.
Though I have played with and have Mandrake 10.1 and Redhat (can't remember the version). One of our bio machines in college (that us bio students lived at sometimes throughout our time there) ran Slackware.

lol, this really made me laugh! i don't really like ipods either, i have and Mp3 player i have heard bad things about the ipod such as the screans being very fragile and not being covered by the 1 year warranty, so ppl break the screans very easily! plus the batterys in the are internal and i have heard then tend to run out and die (as in the don't charge aswell as they used to) so then the person is stuck because then warranty has gone! plus they are very expensive and Mp3 palyers are much cheaper and do the same job!

Thanks, I like to make people laugh. The internal batary idea is very crap. You have to send it back to apple to get it replaced. Why not use a sensible and standard batary solution just like every body else?
Also the fagile screens, what part of portable meens that you can't carry it anywhere becase the slightest touch will kill the screan?

very true plus with mp3 batteries they are so easy to replace! it's not quite the softed touch thats does it, but you couldn't put it in your bag or something without a case!
