Tia did nothing to aid her sister, her duty as Princess held her back.

Woona had worked so hard to get her Cutie Mark just so that she could be at her sister's side, but none of it mattered, the Pegasi trained Woona ruthlessly until she was up to their disciplined standard of Princess.

Woona was never seen or heard from again, and regal Princess Luna would emerge in her place almost a decade later.

The monarchy's plan was to divide the Royal sisters between the two most powerful tribes, Celestia to the Unicorn tribe, and Luna to the Pegasi tribe. Then when the two became of age they would be in leadership positions enabling them to unite the tribes once and for all, bringing harmony to the land of Equestria.

However the cultural differences between Unicorns and Warrior Pegasi were grievously overlooked.

Celestia was "groomed" by the Unicorns to become their leader.

Luna would be "forged in fire" by the Pegasi, Luna would not know fun nor happiness, nor would it be the last time Luna would be sent far away from her sister.

In the end all pony kind would be united in true harmony for a thousand years...

...all at the cost of one scared and helpless little filly who just wanted to be with her sister.
