Description
Drawn for my LJ friend Lulabelle 72, and inspired by her recent fanfic 'The Small Stolen Things' which features Snape smoking at a window. The title is a line from the fic which really resonated with me. Her story can be found at The Petulant Poetess and Ashwinder. Read her work if you haven't already; she is an amazingly talented writer.Graphite and charcoal pencils on cartridge paper.

Nice drawing! Very interesting style
Could you give me a link to the story? I can't find it in Petulant Poetess nor Ashwinder

Thank you. I kinda cringe when I look at this one now. The proportions are all wrong, and I've given him a pigeon chest. Never mind. The whole point is to improve and develop as an artist.
I'm afraid the author has left the fandom now and has deleted all her works. It's a shame, as she was an incredibly talented writer.

Oh, yes Well - for me is interesting, because it looks, somehow, that his neck is like in opposite side. Well, I did like it - this painting is different from others and despite disproportions - it is made really nicely
Sadly, that the author did left and deleted all her works Even the title of fanfic did catch me.

well, thanks again! And I'm sorry you're unable to read her stories. She wrote one for me personally, called 'Pythia Dreaming,' and it was rather lovely.

The thing that really stands out here is his forearm and hand. The shaping and shading are stylised but perfect - flesh, but at the same time something sculpted and hard. It resonates like some early C20th art, but since I'm an ignoramus, I couldn't tell you who. Well done!

I think that is probably the result of using separate source materials for the face, the torso and the forearm/hand. The composite is a bit out of proportion, but I do like the emphasis it places on the forearm and hand. I'm crap at, and therefore afraid of drawing hands, and am determined to overcome it. I too, am clueless when it comes to most C20th art, but am glad it comes across as such. Thanks, Dicky!

This is so perfect for Lula's story! It's exactly how I pictured him as I read 'The Small Stolen Things.'

OH!
This is fabulous. Perfect in every detail: the contrast of the smile and the bitter creases, the fingers, the belly button, and the eyes, oh the eyes.
Thank you for this gorgeous image. It's exactly what I felt when I read Lula's story.

Thanks so much, Duni! I'm so pleased you liked all those details.
You have to thank Lula. I just couldn't read that story and not draw this image!

THIS. This is incredible. Even if it weren't inspired by something I wrote, I would love this. Your style is always evolving, growing, becoming more unique, piece by piece. AMAZING.
I just came from a museum today, and this reminds me of some of the modern art produced in the 40s and after in the 20th century. Very much something I enjoy.
Oh, and RedSky's right -- the belly button. Mmm.
Thank you, Pythia!!!!

Thank you so much, Lula! I'm chuffed to bits that you like him!
'Your style is always evolving, growing...' That is such a heartening thing to hear, as of course, that is exactly my aim. I am grinning like a loon right now.
I never thought anything I produced would be akin to modern art as I rarely venture past the early C20th, art or fic wise. Good to know though.

Lulabelle will love this, I'm sure! And so do I. You've got a very distinctive style - really striking. I adore his nose. And his belly button! Gorgeous.

I hope she does! Thank you very much. I'm still trying out different styles and media to get a feel of what suits me. Sort of teaching myself how to draw and paint, but it's loads of fun to have a go at different things.
His nose is courtesy of the droolworthy Richard Armitage. I've been watching North and South this weekend on Youtube. His belly button is my own invention.

I think this medium - pencil and charcoal - really suits your style. There's so much depth there, and the shading somehow manages to be both strong and subtle.
I agree with Lulabelle, btw, it's definitely got the feel of some early 20th century art.

Cool! I shall try to do more pencil art then. The problem is that the scans never come out with the same contrasts and depths as on the paper. I need to get some advice from some other fanartists regarding this. And also get Photoshop and learn how to use same to make minor corrections/adjustments.
