Haha! It's meant to be a Penseive, see the runes? But I wanted it to be a bit more graphic, startling and 'real', hence his head is rising above the surface and the blood is dripping out. Artistic license and all.

You know, I always imagined that scene in the Shrieking Shack to be quite graphic, with Severus spurting blood. She did bite his neck, and the carotids would pump out one's entire blood volume in a matter of minutes.
