Description
Drawn as a gift for Imera for the 2012/3 round of the SSHG Exchange over at LiveJournal. The prompt was: 'Romantic historical book cover, with the pirate/warrior/soldier/etc Severus and the damsel (or sort of) in distress Hermione,' but I couldn't help tweaking it a bit by swapping the traditional gender roles.Related content

simply amazing. You did a great job with reproducing the early '900 style, then there's the flow of the story, the details and--everything, actually D

Well, that's rather up to the viewer's imagination, I'd say. Since the second panel is in Hermione's thought bubble, it's either the exact truth as Lucius is telling it, or an embellishment of his to get her to take on the task, or else Hermione's imagination running away with her. Your pick! In my head, it's the third option with her imagining Severus in the evil Amazon Queen Bellatrix's clutches. It's all a bit tongue-in-cheek really. I was just having a bit of fun with this prompt.

Since it includes nekkid Sev, it's probably Queen Hermione's over-heated imagination rather than Lord Lucius's description. Despite the fact that the films (and fanon) dress her up like a dominatrix, Bellatrix in the books was interested in power, not sex; the sexiest thing about her was her "heavy-lidded eyes." But I love Bellatrix as an evil Amazon Queen!

I agree completely.
However, I couldn't help but amuse myself with the fact that Bellatrix is also called the Amazon star.

I had not known that about the star Bellatrix. It's perfect! JKR's naming of her characters is always brilliant. One of my favorite obscure historical allusions is the fact that the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus had to crush two attempted coups against his rule, one led by Clodius Albinus and one led by Pescennius Niger.

Yes! I loved that reference too, and the fact that that story is recounted in Machiavelli's 'The Prince.'

I had forgotten that story was in "The Prince." I haven't read Machiavelli since I was in college. I read the tale in the Augustan History (Anthony Birley's translation, published by Penguin Classics as "Lives of the Later Caesars." Birley also wrote a biography of Septimius Severus, which I read years ago, but I don't happen to have a copy in my library. Maybe I should get one.)
