Description I've been on a bit of a Saxon kick since seeing the Staffordshire Hoard exhibit at the National Geographic Society in DC. Skyrim has done quite a lot to contribute, too.

So here. Have a Saxon guy with an axe.

And thanks to ~daarken for the very helpful demonstration of how to make chainmail. If you haven't checked out his YouTube videos, do.

I loooooooove spectacled helms.

Yummy-looking design! I guess the only drawback to having a spectacled visor is that sharp things may easily be guided straight into the eye instead of glancing past the side of the head

I also really like how you gave certain parts of the helm skull-like shapes, and that ridge going up the center of the visor <3 oh my god

A helmet with reasonable vision! I like the mood to this peice, the visual depth behind the character when you look at the eyes. I think I would have liked to see a little more tonal contrast.. but not much; you wouldn't want the highlights to be distracting.

Aw yeee. Easy to take an arrow in the eye, though. I'm glad you like it!

Yeah, that's kind of weird because it looked just fine on the screen I painted it on, but as soon as I got home and opened it on my usual computer it was all IT'S SO DRAB. I guess the school computers are high-contrast?

Argh, yeah. One of my worst enemies is the differences between computer screens. A lot of hard work can get hidden in the darkest of colours.

Quite. Macs are sooooo much more high-res and high-contrast than anything else, so it probably looks awful to anyone not using a Mac D:

haahh, yeah I managed to ruin someone's presentation of their work by allowing them to show their final pieces on my Acer screen

I don't get why all screens aren't created equal But it's why I'm happy to shell out extra for a Mac.

I know Dl it would make sense that a world that is only digital should be visually the same as reality is to anyone with 20/20 vision. ...yet I suppose that's not the way technology advanced :C

It's all about money. It always is. That's why retina graphics capable screens are like twice as much as regular ones.

I wish I could play Skyrim on my Mac. I'll bet it would look way better than it does on my LCD TV.

I love this!!!! Especially the dragon-shaped clasp for his cloak. I don't know why, but as soon as I saw that, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Great detail work and the chainmail is really convincing!

smogteeth In reply to Pythosart [2012-01-12 18:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, its a term for the clasp that is holding the sort of cloak about his shoulders. Thats what my grandmother calls them anyways... we used to sit and make medieval clothing together.
Some look like animal heads, such as the one drawn (ITS SO PRETTY!!!) and some are simple hooks, and others look like leaves and vines.

It also might be my grandmother trying to be creative. I looked it up, and just now realized it is a very uncommon term.... still correct, but uncommon. Sorry for the confusion!
