Description Woo creative title

This started off as an ink drawing (which I'll upload later) and turned into an actual painting. It was great practice for painting metal, though.

The armor itself is inspired by the work of the Helmschmied armourers of Augsburg from the late 15th Century through mid 16th Century.

If the name sounds familiar, it's either because you like medieval stuff or because you've played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I was really happy when I saw it in the game, because it's my favorite style of armor.

Also, these books are excellent.

Warrior: [link]

I get so much inspiration from them, it's crazy. They are now so full of sticky notes and sketches that they probably weigh twice what they did originally XD

Now that is one solid-looking armor! I could totally see that on a gendarme or other late knight, plowing through some conscripted peasants 8D You really have to admire the ingenuity of the late medieval armorers and how they were able to make the suits relatively light nd flexible for the amount of metal they used.

A foot soldier wearing one of these would probably not last too long, though. Up on the horse it is, and then kick it in the direction of the enemy!

[link] This type of armor is another that is pretty awesome. They were made to have extremely thick breastplates and helmets that could even stop a musket bullet, but were less solid around the joints for greater mobility. These armors were exclusively worn by the french Gendarme (massed gentile heavy cavalry) of the first half of the 16th century, and made them the last effective 'knights' in history. Earlier knights had actually been able to fight on foot, but at the beginning of the 16th century the armors had just turned too heavy xD

Also I love yu for being historically interested

I really love the smooth segmenting on some of the Renaissance-era armor. It looks almost futuristic!

Hence the cavalry mace, hm? Knights kind of do have to be mounted unless they're finishing off an opponent. Especially if they're using a heavy weapon or lance as opposed to a sword and shield.

French armor is very nice indeed. You sure seem to like it XD I really prefer German and Swiss armor, at least for the style of the sallet. The one up there is definitely a conglomerate of various armor styles. Italian armor actually annoys me, because I hate hounskull helms. They're kind of silly looking :/

And I love you for the same reason

Indeed C: It's amazing how some could create mechanical parts for those armors that wouldn't be surpassed until 300 years later.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound as though you wouldn't know that yourself, I was mostly monologuing for myself (and for others that might've been reading it, just so they wouldn't get any silly ideas).

MMmhmm, actually the sallets are my favourite type of helmet too I love how they look semi-descendant from legionary helms, with the backwards pointing neck guard and everything. i've been pondering on different designs that Michaeli could wear, and because of his damn face most of them turn out looking like hounskulls. The best alternative that I've found would be a lone visor with a raven-like beak, and no protection for the lower jaw D:

woo!

Too right Medieval engineers were really something.

Oh, not at all!

I love the swept neck guard, too, but mostly I think the combination of their practicality and sleek design are what appeal to me. They look to be built for speed. I like frog-mouthed jousting helms as well, but unfortunately they're a little lacking on the practicality side. Those things are so thick, a modern bullet still can't pierce the more heavyweight ones. It takes HMG or armor-piercing rounds to breach the metal. Unfortunately, that means they tend to be ludicrously heavy. But the decorative ones could be quite beautiful [link] These guys from Ass Creed have some bitchin' helms, too [link]

A beak sounds cool for Michaeli. You could sort of have some chainmail hanging down over his snout or something, could you not? It would have to be fairly lightweight mail, but still.

poor guy'd barely be able to move, and he could still die from a general thrust to the inner thigh, codpiece and high leggings, and maybe a short skirt is the way to go, long skirts are fail, but i like everything else

Thanks, but I never aimed for any sort of correctness in this. I know little about armor other than the basics and the fact that I like the way it looks.

I appreciate that you know where to look fro flaws in armor, but I would like it if you'd keep any critiques to the aesthetic/artistic side, if you please.

I have "Weapon", need to get the other two. I'm wondering if there are other books though with more armor reference, though weapon does have some armor, it's mostly weapons as the title suggests.

Warrior has more armor, as it focuses on the soldiers themselves. There's not all that much armor, but there's enough to make me happy. I'm sure there are books out there with nothing but.

If you find one, tell me.
