Description
Reblog from my Tumblr ?Please read my commentary before asking any more questions~! thanks
Finished Work:
Edit: I've had a few repeated question of how I work my lineart into the drawing.
I'd like to clarify that i don't really actually have a clean line-art. I have clean-sketches that I work under, but they're not what I personally call lineart. If you zoom in, they are very messy. I do merge the layers together at some point in step 5, and I continue to literally work the colours of the lineart into the skin (which is why i turned the sketch layer into overlay so the colours become very similar and nice to work with). That way I can get an almost none-lineart quality.
also, if you're wondering about canvas sizes, check out my journal about them: [link]
The program I used was Painttool SAI, but I think you can achieve similar effects via photoshop with a low-opacity textured brushes.
I hope this helped : ) Sorry it's so darn long. I kept it as short as I could but it's still a pretty long process.
Please keep in mind this is more of a guide to my painting process and how I technically go about doing this; It's not going to automatically teach you how to render or understand structure or anatomy (which I hope I will cover in more tutorials in the future.), which is very important, of course, to the painting itself. That's why I'll be slowly going through and doing more tutorials on anatomy and structure in the next few months, hopefully
A good practice for rendering is actually to do still life and human sketches. preferably with a pencil, and not digitally (yet)
Step-by-step animation:
In the mean time, have some of my other anatomy tutorials:

ohh, i would never presume I've mastered anything in art yet. Maybe once I'm like...50-60 and can do the human form flawlessly in any position xDD.

thanks~ this is probably going to be my last one for a while, since my process is going to be pretty much the same, i think (unless i go through a program change and change my style at the same time...?); plus I think people will benifit more if I do some more anatomy tutorials first

oh sure. I'm in need of those too XD.
Although are you planning to do tutorials on colors?
I'm always having trouble on the saturation on the skins etc.
I know you posted one on shading before but if you have time, please do one on colors too!
I simply love the way you do your arts~
PS: I'm following u on tumblr too and don't know if you rmbr this but I asked you on the song in ur blog.

aaahh, i remember i don't meet a lot of fellow arashi fans xDD
yah, I do want to cover colours too eventually, but i'm hoping to go through structure first, because it's actually more important than colour imo xD. I'm hoping my watchers will go through this with me and maybe they'll improve in the process from this .

It's fine by me whichever you choose to do first 'cos in the end it's the tutorials that helps artist to grow. will be waiting for the next tutorial! XD

This is so, so helpful, thank you so much.
I do have one request though; could you elaborate on how you blended the sketch lines into the painted part?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Qinni In reply to KeniChan [2013-03-30 05:43:51 +0000 UTC]
Well, there's not much to elaborate on, really I merge the layers, so it's all on one layer, and then I use the water-tool and just keep rendering as I would if the lineart was there. It's pretty hard to avoid touching the lineart, so if you keep going, chances are the line will kind of be merged by itself anyways.

okay, maybe you can explain this to me.
What does the multiply option do for a layer exactly?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Qinni In reply to Socks192 [2013-03-30 05:46:27 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to say without an example. I suggest you go into photoshop yourself, take a picture you've drawn already, make a new layer, either use a texture picture you find on dA, cgtextures, or your own, (or you can just colour bucket the layer into a random colour, preferably lighter so you can see what's going on first), and then still on that layer, go to the section where you can change the layer type (where it says "normal"), and you can literally just scroll down and it'll show you what each layer type does. Experiment and have fun with it .
Multiply, specifically, makes the artwork darker but according to the two layers combined....kind of. it's really hard to explain, sorry "orz.

OHHHHH okay.
ive been using it wrong this whole time, thats why I cant figure it out! Thanks

Qinni In reply to Socks192 [2013-03-31 06:18:56 +0000 UTC]
no problem. And don't forget you can also change the opacity of the layer - so if you put it on darken but it darkens it too much, you can scroll the opacity down to %15-20 and see how it looks, etc.

It makes me think of an image by a Japanese artist.. similar with the mermaid in the bottle, except the cat in that is just sitting next to the bottle, not looking into it like yours.
A Very lovely image.
