Description This is a design for a "pocket star destroyer" being smaller than a full sized star destroyer but larger and more powerful than a regular cruiser.

Its about 900 meters long, armed with 12 ion cannon batteries, 16 turbolaser turrets, and 1 heavy turbolaser. Also has two hangars on the side of the ship, although their closed in this render, figured it could hold 30 or so fighters.

edit: I changed the original file a bit, made the lighting and shadows better.

Got to say this setting off my inner analyst. Now I will say its design is a stark departure from most Star Destroyers that we see and it's blunted end and rounded more softer edges does not fully fit into the mindset of the Tarkin Doctrine we see in Rebels: emphasising fear and intimidation.

However I feel this is its main advantage and allows it to stand out against the more overt a danger shaped designs. Also it feels like it would fill a nice niche roll of light escort but that's it as it does not appear to manuverable due to its brick like design.

As for when it was made I feel this variant was constructed in the post Yavin and after the death of Tarkin. As his death would allow for a shift away from the Capital ship obsession the Empire had. If anything it looks like something Thrawn would build: its simple unembellished and while not flexible would be simpler to build and crew than a ISD and by your description packs above its weight.

Terrific stuff mate. Really nice design and perfect niche role. There never seemed to be enough heavy cruisers in service in legends. Looks very solid, almost like the Defender-class of the New Republic but better .
Yeah, amazing design though. I feel it could do with some external 'greeblie' surfaces, probably along the brim-notch. The armament layout also doesn't feel quite right with the single quad, and are the sensor and such concealed or? Perhaps the quad needs a buddy or two, placed along the centreline. Just my thoughts, similar to Ansel Hsiao's Allegiance and Procursator designs. All in all looks great and very smooth, with the drawback that it seems it would mean a non-standard sort of layout where comms equipment is internal primarily. Eh, I dunno. The armoured look is very nice also, just a shame about the repetitive plate texture but then it's hardly noticeable so... Awesome.

btw, download not working for me. It may be a wider issue.
Oh oh and another question, how do you create these? Is it google sketchup still like with the Venator?

Thanks I am glad you like it. Β I wish I still had this file, I lost it when I my last computer crashed, I always wanted to revisit it and make it better with more detail. Β And yes I used google sketchup to make the model and v-ray to render this particular one.

Yeah it is one of my favourite fan designs ever, dude. It's got such a nice look to it, and some interesting novel design concepts. Have you ever come close to redoing it since this comment? I actually tried drawing it, as well as attemtping to recreate it in sketchup. I was interested in attempting to recreate it in Minecraft (some of my work hereΒ www.planetminecraft.com/member… ) but it's hard without a sense of height, and some orthographic images etc.

The hull contours are slightly similar to those of Venator, so is it supposed to be Kuat design? And what era do you position it in? Maybe, one of the the last experimental ship for the Republic Navy was the first in this line? Or may it be Palpatine's private research proect of the same time (19 BBY)?

By the way, 900 m long? Hmm... And what is the size of its' main turret in that case? Possibly, this should be only 1.5-2x bigger than EF76 Nebulon-B frigate, i.e., 450-600 m long?

Great work! It's nice to see, others have as nice designs in Star Wars universe, as the film had. You've commented on one of my ships, but it was far from ready. I would be happy, if You would see the finished product, when it's ready.

By the way i would imagine the side somehow else, but as You modelled it, looks a pretty hard, unbreakable structure. A siege Star Destroyer .

Loved the tower! It's unique.

Best wishes, keep up the good work!

I'll stay in contact. Greetings from Hungary!

Thanks for the comment friend, glad you like the design. And your concept already looked great even if it wasn't finished, cant wait to see it complete!

Keep up the good work as well!

Overall, very nice. The command tower seems a little cock-eyed, but it might be the viewing angle throwing me off.

Yea prob the angle, I always strive to make my models very symmetric, its that whole ocd thing haha. Thanks for faving!

I like symmetry too. I attempted to make one of my Axe-tail ships asymmetric in the style of the YT-1300, but I couldn't come up with anything I liked.
