Description
[EDIT]So I finally remade this tutorial. The main reason for that is the fact that the so-called layout was just horrible.
I've used different photos as well (because I didn't keep the old ones -.-)
But basically the content is still the same, I've just added a few things.
If you, however, prefer the old version: It can be found there [link]

If anyone detects a mistake or has a suggestion for a different wording in some cases, feel free to tell me.
I'm bad at explaining, especially in English xD

xD My only question is, how do you get them to NOT squish and deform when you cut them? Cause i cant figure out how to cut them after baking either. Pfft. XD

Sorry for the late reply! Once again my internet was gone for several weeks o.o
Well I normally cut them after baking using a razor blade. Because otherwise they're just too soft, although I do recommend putting them in the freezer for a few minutes before cutting (if you want to cut them before baking)! That usually works quite well...

before i signed up to dA (again) I perused through tutorials to help me get a few pieces done. I haven't done this one yet, but since looking it over (for the 3rd of 4th time) I'm getting it a lot better, and thank you for the coolness of it...Just wondering though, HOW do you cut it after baking? Thought it would be hard as a rock or something.

Thanks a lot and sorry for the late reply!
Well sometimes it's quite hard to cut them after baking, but if you use a razor blade or a really sharp knife, it usually works well. It's easiest to cut them directly after baking when they're still warm.
Obviously it also depends on the size/thickness, but as most canes are very thin, it's not much of a problem

I wanted to bake mine before cutting - like the polymer clay canes that you buy - I made my cane... well lots of canes... and tried it on one and when I went to cut it they crumbled and stuff. I don't want to cut a zillion slices and bake them and I don't want to leave canes in the freezer so they don't get messed up. Is there any way I could bake them before cutting and have them not crumble apart??? o.o
π: 0 β©: 1
QueEnOfNights In reply to moofestgirl [2011-05-15 11:05:22 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the late reply!
I suppose that also depends on the kind of clay you're using.
It might help to not bake them for too long. I always bake my canes for about 10-20 minutes instead of 30. And obviously it's easiest to cut them directly after baking when they're still warm.
When I first tried to cut my canes after baking, the reason they crumbled was because I used a normal knife. Actually it was quite sharp, but a razor blade or something like that just works so much better!

Once I roll it, it al get's mashed up on the inside. What am I doing wrong?
π: 0 β©: 1
QueEnOfNights In reply to arihoma [2011-04-17 15:43:00 +0000 UTC]
I think it depends on the clay you're using. I've never had any problems using Fimo, but other kinds of clay that are much softer get messed up quite easily. At least that's what I've heard from others!
You could try putting it in the freezer for a few minutes before rolling it, that might make it a little harder...

arihoma In reply to QueEnOfNights [2011-04-17 16:57:33 +0000 UTC]
Yep, I read the freezer think somewhere and tried it, it worked quite good! Also the colours (esp. the translucent) changes quite a bit after the cooling down, so that's something I had to figure out first

Do you normally use a whole package of the clay for each method you use? Like, for strawberry slices, do you use the whole pack for the largest amount of color?
π: 0 β©: 1
QueEnOfNights In reply to earthsea-23 [2010-09-23 13:01:25 +0000 UTC]
No, usually less than one package. But I tend to use too much...
