Description If anyone wants to draw a humourous version of the "fanart" that they're looking at, send it in and I'll add it to this piece or link it!

So what got me to draw this? I was browsing through Marauder fanart and it was just how there was so much shit out there. I mean, no matter how well they're drawn or coloured, it's not right to portray James, Sirius and Remus as Greek Sex Gods while Peter looks twelve (if he's even there). I don't like him either, but he was still a part of the group. As for Lily, I don't think she's the sort to have a short skirt and an unbuttoned blouse... RESPECT FOR THE MARAUDERS PLEASE!

In all fairness there are some artists that do them justice though

Anyway this was a great excuse to FINALLY draw the Marauders. I LOVE them, but I never draw them! Except Lily and James. So yeah... wow, the first I've ever attempted with these guys. Pretty significant. It was a rush job overall, and I can draw better but ah well. I'm real lazy when it comes to drawing. I'll work on that.

You know what, JKR did a good job for the Golden Trio, but as for the Marauders, they're a bit TOO perfect. She kinda portrays telented and good looking = good and "less talented" and ugly/plain = bad with the Marauders. And she seems to love red heads (Weasleys/Lily/Young Dumbledore) and dislike blondes (Peter, Malfoys, Dursleys/Grindlewald). Why JK. Why dis my hair colour? ResPECT. Haha (funnily enough she's blonde now too....?)

God. I like, just discovered this. It's awesome. Sirius's face is like: God, do we HAVE to go through this again? It's great.

Haha thanks! I actually look back on this and cringe. This could be much better! I imagine the marauders would probably find it more hilarious than annoying

Omg, I just discovered this seven-eight years after it was made, but I'll still comment it. I, too, hate how one-dimensional they're all made out to be.
People always make James extremely handsome and tall, even if they picture Harry as pretty average. And he's usually portrayed with Harry's glasses. James was a rich kid, why would he wear cheap glasses? xDĀ
And Sirius... it is confirmed, that he was hot and got a lot attention at Hogwarts, but also that he didn't care. Why do fans always make hot guys players?Ā
Remus, too, was a Marauder. He probably wasn't all that into reading and homeworks (that doesn't mean he didn't care for school at all, and he seemed more serious than the others, but you get my point) And James and Sirius were confirmed to be some of the smartest in their year. So no, he wasn't the brains of the group!
And there's something some people have completely misunderstood about Peter. Everyone says how they'll never consider him a Marauder, and that Lily, Regulus or Snape should replace him. And why do they hate him? Because he betrayed them. But he couldn't betray them if he wasn't their friend in the first place.Ā
I get your point about Lily. But sometimes, I see her portrayed as an overly Hermione-ish girl, who would never even consider breaking a rule. Why can't she BOTH be a sweet, smart witch AND a strong, popular girl?
Did you btw have a particular fanart in mind when making this, or was it just something random?

Hello! Jeez, I'm not on deviantart enough, I get messages 100 years later (I beat your 78!). Oh man, you just have to search up the marauders on here and they're all super hot. No specific fan art. This was like, 8 years ago though so maybe there was one that just set me off.

I'm a huge anti-Snily, so that didn't help either. I should have added him in as some wet-eyed puppy with lily all cooey over him. Yuk.

Thanks for your supportive words too

I agree completely on the depiction of the Marauders in fanart. Your thoughts on what appearances she likes better were also interesting, I've never thought of that before. What's her natural hair colour?
Well, Luna and Neville are blondes (yes, JKR said that Neville was blonde) that she portray as great people, and even though she's in the background, Hannah Abbott too. I just never saw it through that perspective, probably because I'm a brunette and I was happy that there was finally a heroine who kind of looked like me in Harry Potter (Hermione). Anyway, did she really say that Peter was blonde?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

quidwitch In reply to HikariMichi [2013-06-16 03:53:31 +0000 UTC]

Mousy. So one assumes he is. He was in the movies too. Although, Neville was apparently blonde too. (Yeah, he became the hero and all, but he was still a clutz for 6 novels!).

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

HikariMichi In reply to quidwitch [2013-06-16 12:33:23 +0000 UTC]

But he was still not unlikeable (Neville). There's a difference. Don't you think many blonde characters give a sense of humour to the story, if nothing else?
(Also, Voldemort was dark-haired, not blonde and he's the biggest villain of them all).

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

quidwitch In reply to HikariMichi [2013-06-16 19:10:09 +0000 UTC]

No, the general "trend" I see is: The Good: Red haired, The Bad: Dark haired, and the Ugly: Blonde haired. (Not literally ugly, but the characters that don't fit the other categories). Of course not EVERY character fits into those three categories, but that's the trend.

I'm sure it's unintentional, but JKR's flaw is her stereotyping with her minor characters. Particularly with their names...

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

HikariMichi In reply to quidwitch [2013-06-16 22:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Hm, doesn't dark haired fit the good category as well? I mean, Harry, James, Sirius etc. I'm probably forgetting someone, but those are pretty important characters. There are many dark haired characters in general which is realistic since it's the most common hair colour world-wide, and a dominant trait, so it only makes sense that some of the dark-haired characters would be good and some would be bad. But it is true that dark hair and blonde hair seems to run in the pure-blood families, who often have prejudices. In fiction in general, there are far more redheads than what would be realistic since it's a recessive trait that only exists in small parts of the world. Anyway, I can't think of any villains in HP with red hair, now that you mention it …

Great idea in your artwork!

But I disagree with your comments on JK Rowling's characterizations being shallow or simple. All of the Marauders had character flaws as well as being hero's even Lily, who teased her less gifted sister and turned her back on Severus. Even Peter Pettigrew has a moment where he cannot kill the son of his dearest friend.

As for red heads, red hair has been regarded as a sign of the witch in almost every ethnic group since antiquity. Blond hair is rarer than brown/black and is almost always prized as beauty. Hence the Malfoy's, Grindlewald and Fleur, a heroine. Also, Luna Lovegood and Hannah Abbot, heroines.

quidwitch In reply to werewolfsfan [2013-01-13 01:42:20 +0000 UTC]

I was merely pointing out that the main friends/family/mentors of Harry had red hair and his main enemies had blonde, obviously she wasn't specifically making a point of blonde people being horrible. I'm not stupid enough to suggest she has shallow interpretations of her characters! We're talking here about the fan art that is shallow.

And actually, Lily never teased Petunia - only Snape. Lily always stood up for her when Snape did something horrible. Also, Peter HAD to let Harry go. If you read Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows carefully, it stated that by saving Peter from the fate of death, he created a magical bond - whereas Peter would have to reciprocate the act some day. Peter only had the thought, ever so slightly, of letting Harry free from the cellar and that was enough for the magical hand to sense disloyalty and turn on Peter. He hardly had a "moment" where he decided he could not kill the son of his "dearest friend" hah! Some dear friend, he chose to allow them to die rather than die himself.

Lily, and that boy (James or Severus?) teased Petunia with her magic away from school.

quidwitch In reply to werewolfsfan [2013-01-13 02:28:35 +0000 UTC]

... James or Severus? Oh man, you can't come to me and state things from the books as points in your arguments when you don't even know who's who! It was Severus! But like I said, Lily always stood up for her sister. She wasn't the one saying the unkind words. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

werewolfsfan In reply to quidwitch [2013-01-13 04:51:46 +0000 UTC]

We have no absolute knowledge of Severus visiting the Evans house. Petunia complained of the tricks of Lily and "that boy." Such things as transfiguring tea cups.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 2

quidwitch In reply to werewolfsfan [2013-01-13 10:31:07 +0000 UTC]

BTW, on re reading your first comment you stated Lily's 'turning her back on Severus' as a flaw. Not. True. In. The. Least. Severus turned HIS back on Lily by joining a group that targeted her kind in racial hate and intolerance, and refused to admit he was friends with her to his death eater pals. Then when he calls her an extremely racist term in front of everyone even though she had been DEFENDING him for years, she finally gives up on him. So standing up for her dignity and self respect is wrong? Snape should have turned his back on his death eater crew if he loved her so much. She did what all self-respecting girls should do. Severus was a fool, and he later paid for his power-hungry ways. HE was the reason she died. HE told Lord Voldemort of the prophesy. HE was the bad guy at the start, NOT Lily. I don't deny he was a hero in the end - but it was all redemption. Read the books properly, PLEASE.

quidwitch In reply to werewolfsfan [2013-01-13 10:24:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes we do. They found letters of Petunia writing to Dumbledore - if I recall correctly they actually did go into her things. That was possibly the only time Lily somewhat 'teased' Petunia, but that was all in good humour on her behalf.

Petunia complained of Lily doing magical tricks. As in magical charms and transfiguring tea cups - not cruel tricks (How is doing magical tricks being horrible to her? She was just jealous). And the reference to "That boy" was when she was talking about the Dementors guarding Azkaban.

I'm a walking, talking Harry Potter factfinder. Why are you trying to prove me wrong with facts that aren't correct?

fuzzybutts108 [2011-08-29 21:48:30 +0000 UTC]

I agree entirely!

Because eeven in the books sometimes JKR's point was no one's perfect, take Snape ( SSSSPPPOOOOIIIILLLLEEEERRRR spoiler alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) He seemed to detest harry for no reason but it was because of James, and even though snape hated james, he still kept harry safe because he loved lily.
so i don't get it when someone pictures the boys as Abs and Brains and the girls as Model and Barbie. and pretend that the maraders were only three and Peter was just a extra wannabe-fan.

Maybe she put more red- headed people in her books because of all the mean insults to read headed people.
