Thank you!
I used arrows to show the direction the coils were going, then once I laid out the scale patterns I followed those.

This is amazing. The mixture of different colors, details, and scales makes this an awesome piece, although the colors have the right tones, I find the image itself is a little dim it may just my monitor though. However, I'm pleased with the final colored dragons.

This piece doesn't need more things at the background. I think it works better without.
Well, we'll see how it looks like when it's finished!

Actually, I agree. That's why I vastly simplified my background scheme. Thanks!

The final version turned out much, much different than I'd originally planned... I'll get it posted as soon as all the glue dries.

I don't know why, but for some reason I was expecting the blue one to be more silvery. But this looks just as cool (in both senses of the word)!
And you know, it's still one big incomprehensible knot! Which is great . I am beginning to feel sorry for your head instead of mine. I'm only looking at it after all.

rachaelm5 In reply to boryfun [2008-02-01 01:53:16 +0000 UTC]
I was originally expecting the blue dragon to be more silvery, too. But it WANTED to be blue. You know how those color schemes sometimes seem to have minds of their own... Granted, there was a lot more red on the red/gold dragon than I'd originally thought I would have, also. The silver/blue dragon needed to balance that out.
Now that I have the finale finished (but not yet posted - still waiting for the glue to dry), I'm glad that I kept the blue one so strongly blue - it blances out all of the warm earth tones of the background very well.

They are so beautiful! I love them!
I wonder, do you use your prismacolors and watercolors on canvas or bristol board?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rachaelm5 In reply to Rose-As-Red [2008-01-25 15:09:04 +0000 UTC]
Thanks very much!
Neither Prismas or watercolor work on canvas; the texture is too rough. Bristol board is what I used for this project. I also like cold-pressed illustration board for this kind of work, but it would have been murder on my hands to cut out.

This is so amazing! How could you ever have the patience? I give up if a picture takes more than three days
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rachaelm5 In reply to diredragon [2008-01-25 15:10:36 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! The only way I *can* have the patience is to spread it out over two weeks like I have. I just leave it sitting out and stare at it until the next bit of the color scheme coalesces in my mind, then I tackle that section until it's complete.

I just hope that the intricate coils of those dragons link up properly - there were a couple of spots that I lost track of whose partial set of scales belonged to whom.
