Description
This piece was inspired by the marvelous Uruk'hai from the first Lord of the Rings movie. I loved the ogre-critters' armor and I thought that it would translate very well to a Predator's muscular frame.I also don't do a lot of detailed backgrounds like this, so I found the landscape (an amalgam of various nice spots in Colorado and Utah) both challenging and enjoyable.
I drew this with my Zig pens, and it took close to 30 hours to complete. I worked on it almost exclusively over my lunch periods at work.
Edit: Big thanks go out to for the very informative article on how to properly grip a bow and fire an arrow without causing yourself serious injury!

Thank you very much. I'm really glad I finally got this booger finished. Now I'm on to something even stranger... Gotta do me up a nice picture of a Fallen God and a Badblood who worships it.

Such and amazing piece of art, what media did you use for it.
It is full complete and amazing, everylittle bit of it has its over play. the over grown tree area hidding the hunter the pose of the predator is spot on. You skills of drawing and shading are the best I have ever seen. Your character and setting design seems well thoughout and and true to the world that has been created. You are a genious at what you do and you deserve to have piece such as this in art galleries around the world, along with your own art gallery.
You are amazing and you have joined the list of my favourite artists, not for work you do that coniside with passions of mine or for my close friendship as some on the list have, but because of your abilities. See my home page for proof of you name being added to the list.
Super Duper Mini Dance for you

WOW totally hand drawn, thats even more amazing.
You mis-understood what I ment your not on my friends list you are on my favourite artists of all time and in my eyes I prefer your art to that of Dali, Picasso or Van Gough. Also after visiting the Dali an Picasso galleries in Barcelona I believe you to have more talent than they did.

Wow... Thank you very much, ~cbnuk . I really appreciate such well-thought-out compliments and critique. I am honored to be on your Friends list.
I started with a pencil drawing - fairly detailed for the Predator, but sketchy for the background foilage. I completed the image with pen and ink - with Zig drawing pens, specifically.

Yeah, a fellow Deviant got me going on the Zigs. I was able to find them locally, where Microns seem to be non-existent. I finally did find some Microns (at a scrapbook store of all places), so I will test 'em out and compare brands. Then I can mail order whichever one works best.
I tell you, though, that detailed background was a royal pain in the butt. Now I remember why I ususally skimp on the backgrounds.

I still think those leafy green vegetables need some work; I have never really learned the knack for background fluff like that. This is one of the more successful attempts and I'm glad it's gotten good response so far.

Really nice conversion on the armour, even though i think your Pred would kick the Uruk's arse any day Very nice detailing too, especially on the background, cant wait for the colour, cause its a little confusing at the moment with all the detail, it almost blends into one. But its still fantastic piece.

Color? Nah, not this time. I've been staring at this piece for long enough; time for something completely different. Would YOU like to color it?
I agree that there is some confusion between the figure and the background. I'm still learning how to shade with pen and ink; it's totally different from graphite or color techniques, and I think I have a lot to learn yet.
Thanks for your feedback!

I know what you mean! Those armors, and that bow the Uruk-hai had were totally awesome! And all those beautiful swords too... Aaagh, better stop thibnking them before I start drooling.
Absolutely gorgeous pencil art picture. One of the best I have seen in a long time! Everything on it is done brilliantly, the bow, the armor, background (I love those plants), predator itself, its pose and muscles, shading...EVERYTHING!

Wow - thank you very much, Mari. I used pen and ink for this one instead of pencil. It was quite a challenge. I can shade with pencils much more easily than with pen; I may have to do another Predator drawing just with pencil one of these days... LOL - thanks for lodging the idea in my brain.

Line art doesn't take that long at all - I think I finished the lineart part of this one inside two hours. It's all of that inky-dinky shading that takes so long! But it was fun...

Yes, I understand. Though I certainly do love doing lineart. I think I'm going to attempt using diluted ink on one of my line pieces sometime, just to see what kind of grey washes I can do with a brush... might have some interesting effects.
