Description
This piece was inspired by the marvelous Uruk'hai from the first Lord of the Rings movie. I loved the ogre-critters' armor and I thought that it would translate very well to a Predator's muscular frame.I also don't do a lot of detailed backgrounds like this, so I found the landscape (an amalgam of various nice spots in Colorado and Utah) both challenging and enjoyable.
I drew this with my Zig pens, and it took close to 30 hours to complete. I worked on it almost exclusively over my lunch periods at work.

i always wanted to see this, a predator with a bow, of course my bow was a really advanced compound bow, and the predator was one i envisioned, with a crocodile style mask, with croc jaws carved into the front like the celtic pred, but this is just too fucking cool, really nice work

I was going for something fairly brutal-looking with the Predator's longbow; if I tackle a design with an advanced compound bow, I'll want to use a more advanced-looking armor style for the Predator as well. It's a fantastic idea, though, and I'll keep your recommendation in mind when I come 'round to this concept again.

I was aping the Uruk'hai design pretty closely, and the topknots bouncing as they ran just *amused* me. Had to keep it for the Predator, too. That, and those arrows that have a half-inch wide shaft, all sticking out of Boromir. Ouchies FTW.

This piece has iven me tones of ideas armour is lovely fit on the pred. The thought of a bow gives it a real feral savage-like look.

I'm glad to provide food for thought. Fellowship of the Ring and its sequels provided me with tons of reference material for all kinds of applications - Predator armor was just the first happy thought that flitted through my headspace. I really liked the way that the armor plates overlapped, and the evident strength required to operate a longbow of the size the Uruk'hai were using. Savagery is our friend.

I only envisioned this one as a black and white piece - I think in two totally different modes when I do color, or when I shade with ink. I didn't even THINK about a color scheme for this because I was so focussed on the textures and contrast.

Yeah, I've always been puzzled by the fact that we never see Predators with this kind of ranged weapon. They have plasma canons and the Frisbee of Death, but I've not seen anything quite like bow-and-arrow or even a tool like the atlatl to make a spear cast go farther. At any rate, after I saw Fellowship of the Ring for the fifteenth time, it finally occurred to me that the Uruk'hai would translate almost seemlessly to Predator, at least as far as the look and weaponry went, so I tried it out and voila! Got a halfway cool drawing.

Thanks very much. I've never seen any Predator equipment that fits into this catagory of weaponry, so a fairly ornate and spikey longbow (which could double as a blunt instrument of much bloodletting) seemed fairly appropriate.

LOL - thanks very much. I hadn't seen a bowhunter concept either - the guys don't use many ranged weapons, even in the comics. I thought it was high time someone took that into consideration.

Yeah...Everything they use is pretty short range. But I guess that's for the honor, right? Hand-to-hand combat, so to speak.
