Description
Xenoswamp: Experimenting Using P S to PaintOkay, I've never done a character from scratch painting in Photoshop. I've painted on photo bases, etc., but never freehand and without any reference before. I sat down and looked for a background that inspired me, and found this lovely swamp by *indigodeep
The roots in the water reminded me of undulating xenomorph tails, so I decided to do Raul at rest in a peaceful, natural environment.
I started with his head and played around with dodge and burn to make smooth and textured areas, then moved down his body.
I may tweak him further, as I am a compulsive tweaker...but I think I did what I'd set out to do in terms of experimenting. I'm sure there are points needing improvement, and any advice will be welcomed. This is a learning piece, and unless you say nasty stuff about my honey lamb sweety pie xeno (not the pic, but the actual alien), I'll take it for the offer of help it was meant to be

Compulsive tweaker, eh? I almost called you that, but I feared your wrath.
Nice to see you're so humble.

You have photoshop though; yours looks so professional, while mine is whittled off painfully cartoony on GIMP.

aaahhhhh....
I had GIMP once...I never figured out how to work it! How LAME is that??? I used to work in a very old version of Windows Paint, and several people nagged me to death and were relentless and forced me to install the bare bones P S and learn to use it...
If you are a student, P S might be available to you, free for the bare bones version, or reduced cost for the full version.

You got some interesting xenomorph content. Esp like this one due to the dark forest.
Aliens is such a great movie and Giger's xeno is one of the best looking creatures ever.
Thanks for the fav and I've few more xeno pics titled under dark side, if you've haven't seen them.

U2.I probably know the the answer to this but If it's okay to ask, you mentioned people being less tolerant about your pieces. What did they say?
As you may notice by the title I try to create these pieces that will invoke a reaction and make people think.
I didn't really think anyone else would create having a relationship with xenomorphs and I like how you've drawn them, giving it your style.
ps- thanks for the hug.

I've gotten some saying it was gross, what am I doing having her love a drooling, slimey, disgusting monster, etc etc.
For the story, I was more thinking along the lines, not that love was blind, but that love sees and is willing to accept ( at least to some extent.) I wrote about how love changes you, and ultimately how true love looks after the interests of the person you love, even if it hurts you.
I think the xenos are beautiful

I hesitated to try for a long time. At this point, tho, I still prefer to start out with graphite on paper, just because I don't have the luxury of time anymore. My straight pencil drawings take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Sometimes, if I augment them in P S, it's an additional 15 to 20 minutes. Straight drawing in P S took about 2 hours.

try adding hints with colored pencil...subtle at first, testing the hues etc.
