Description
This doesn't feel finished yet, but I'm not sure what else I should do with it... I may edit it more later if I figure it out. The grass is especially bothering me but I really don't know how to fix it. I'd also like to add more details since the setting still seems a bit plain, but I dunno if that'd be overkill. Edit: I've tweaked a lot of stuff - Ditto's lighting and head bumps, water texture, grass shading, and rock colors.Anyway, Ditto has been my favorite PokΓ©mon ever since I first played Blue. It's just so damn cute and squishy and unique! Most attempts at making it realistic seem to base it off an amoeba - that really doesn't make sense to me, besides being impractical, its dex entries specifically state that it's multicellular.
I imagine instead that it'd be more like a mollusk, sort of a cross between a gastropod and a cephalopod. It can change its color, texture, shape, and size at will - like an octopus, but more advanced. They're terrestrial but often found near water like most slugs and snails, though I imagine that they're not slimy (just squishy and rather smooth.)
Also, like many gastropods, Ditto is obviously a hermaphrodite species. The idea of PokΓ©mon genetics breaks my brain though so I won't speculate on their ability to hybridize with everything under the sun.

But what if I lost it? I reckon a creature that can transform into anything would be very good at hiding.

That's certainly a strange way to interpret Ditto. I always saw it as a big blob of jelly. Someone must have lost their Lure Ball.

My God, you've got your ideas perfect.
Finally someone else who realizes they are Molluscs that are also hermaphrodites.
Good work, my friend!

A kind of octopus has been discovered which mimics various dangerous animals (lionfish, seasnake, etc.) to ward off predators. Real life keeps getting closer to fantasy every day.

This looks very neat! I like your design.
Yeah, since Red and Blue I always thought PokΓ©mon were hermaphrodites and amorphous at heart, like Ditto here: that's why they just appear so often, and can "evolve" into new and better forms so quickly!
Then they introduced eggs.
From what I've heard, all PokΓ©mon are the same species, but separate sub-species. That's how different pairings can breed. Crazy huh?

Nice. I like seeing informed interpretations such as this, and from you I always expect no less. Yours are by far my favorite realistic interpretations, BASED simply on a species, but mutated to support the idea of pokemon, which are more cryptids, undiscovered yet unique creatures. Very nice!
