Description I've had this at the backburner for a loooooong time. i wasn't happy with the original version of this at all, which was why it remained at my scraps section at my other account. Still, seeing as I'm in need of some fanart for Akon this week, I decided to get on this one. Finally.

Tis the one and only Sephiroth from Final Fantasy! Definitely one of the awesome epic characters around. This pic is about him making that final step from hero to villian. It's kinda funny that when i started this years ago, I didn't know what to make of it. it seemed right to have this setting sun behind Sephiroth, and him holding this very uneasy face. Now, it all makes sense.

I have a confession to make btw. Ever since I laid my eyes on a pack of X-Men ultra Fleer cards back in1994, I believe, I've always imagined myself painting epic/realistic scenes of my favorite characters. I'd eagerly see what Julie Bell, Boris Vallejo, and all these other fabulous artists would do with my favorite character. There were times when I'd be near tears at some of the incredible stuff I saw with their artwork. i tried doing the same thing with my fanart and color pencils but, dammit, it never came out as cool as the work I saw on those cards. Yet, I never did stop trying to pretend I was making some image for Ultra Fleer, which is why my work is the way it is. I think my biggest dream ever would be to do artwork of beloved characters. Even better, a cover of a character on a Heavy Metal magazine! One could dream, right?

I don't see fanart as senseless, btw. Many artists I've talked too so far don't see fanart as a big deal. I see fanart as the current version of bringing mythological beings, created to teach society important lessons, to life. They could be villians and heros; pick your poison. Hercules...Zeus...Hell, even Jesus Christ, they all got thousands of artworks devoted to them. That, my friends, is fanart. Michangelo probably did the biggest fanart ever when he did a rendition of Adam and Eve in the Sistine Chapel. What we're doing today is still carrying on that tradition, which is why I commend any artist whose willing to look past the taboos/negatives of making fanart and see themselves contributing something significant.
