Description
I've had this at the backburner for a loooooong time. i wasn't happy with the original version of this at all, which was why it remained at my scraps section at my other account.Tis the one and only Sephiroth from Final Fantasy! Definitely one of the awesome epic characters around. This pic is about him making that final step from hero to villian. It's kinda funny that when i started this years ago, I didn't know what to make of it. it seemed right to have this setting sun behind Sephiroth, and him holding this very uneasy face. Now, it all makes sense.
I have a confession to make btw. Ever since I laid my eyes on a pack of X-Men ultra Fleer cards back in1994, I believe, I've always imagined myself painting epic/realistic scenes of my favorite characters. I'd eagerly see what Julie Bell, Boris Vallejo, and all these other fabulous artists would do with my favorite character. There were times when I'd be near tears at some of the incredible stuff I saw with their artwork. i tried doing the same thing with my fanart and color pencils but, dammit, it never came out as cool as the work I saw on those cards. Yet, I never did stop trying to pretend I was making some image for Ultra Fleer, which is why my work is the way it is. I think my biggest dream ever would be to do artwork of beloved characters. Even better, a cover of a character on a Heavy Metal magazine!
I don't see fanart as senseless, btw. Many artists I've talked too so far don't see fanart as a big deal. I see fanart as the current version of bringing mythological beings, created to teach society important lessons, to life. They could be villians and heros; pick your poison. Hercules...Zeus...Hell, even Jesus Christ, they all got thousands of artworks devoted to them. That, my friends, is fanart. Michangelo probably did the biggest fanart ever when he did a rendition of Adam and Eve in the Sistine Chapel.

Somehow, Sephiroth looked rather different here compared to most fan arts I have seen so far. Slender, yet strong looking (especially his legs). Kudos to you for creating such a wonderful piece of art.

My main OC is Yuna's daughter. No she is not married to Tidus. Sorry, he is married to Rikku and they have a son and daughter. Yuna is married to a cool OC of mine, he is an epic wolf demon. :3 Guess who his great great (Hours later) grandfather is? Anyways please read it. :3

Aw, thank you! Yeah, I really wanted Sephiroth to have a bit of his heroic side before he finally succumbed to the evil inside.

Whoa! Where was this when I was loving Sephiroth?!! Well, I still do....
This is simply AMAZING! This is definitely the last throes of his human side, I can tell from his expressions... and I can see that you indicated the mountains of Niebelhiem, where it all started.
Excellent job! I love this one! For the depiction of something that has certainly been lost forever....

Aw, it warms my heart when Sephiroth fans know exactly what I was shooting for. And definitely, those montains pay homage to Neibelhiem. XD Man, I love that game. And this cahracter is jsut pure awesomeness. Nothing says tragic villian than Sephiroth!
many thanks for the comment.

Hah, well, Sephiroth does happen to be one of those overrated villians. When I played FF7 for the first time I thought to myself, "Is that it? Is that the one everyone was goo-goo-ga-ga-ing over?" Still, he was a good villian and I love to show this human side to characters like him.

I think that you have achieved what you hoped for in this piece. I really like the way you portrayed Sephiroth here. Instead of making him maniacal you've made him introspective. It is like a snapshot of the calm before the storm. I want to say more but I have only had four hours of sleep last night and I don't want to become incoherent.

Gah, I've wanted to comment on this review you gave me for Sephiroth for a long time. Sorry it's come so damn late. But thank you! Indeed, I really wanted to reveal Sephiroth when he transformed from hero to villian. I didn't want to go down that path of making him all insane or sexy or adorable (with annoying cat ears T_T ). I really wanted to portray Sephiroth as this very broken man.

pistolrush In reply to RadiusZero [2009-06-06 18:27:18 +0000 UTC]
It's okay! You're welcome. I have always had a soft spot for Sephiroth. I mean can you imagine how horrible it would be to find out that everything you are is a lie? No wonder he lost his mind. (Cat ears?! Seriously, that is just wrong)

RadiusZero In reply to pistolrush [2009-06-06 18:34:21 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's the thing that drew me to sephiroth. He really is a broken hero. Everything he fought for...a scam. >_>
Yes, cat ears...

BLARGH! CAT EARS! Sorry but I believe that cat ears belong on cats and nothing else.
Also I just finished watching Advent Children and I have to weep at the way Sephiroth was used as the proverbial bogeyman. That movie was kind of bad.

One thing, tho... *gsp* Something about his left arm is slightly off. It's only a teensy-bit distracting, and I haven't figured out what it is yet. Oh wellz.

Awesome pic! There are a lot of Sephirot's fanarts out there, and it's hard to make him look interesting on these days, but you did it very well I'd buy it for sure if I were at Akon
I agree with you on the fanart theme. A lot of people tend to be pretty conservative and close-minded with their myths. Also, fanart is art actually, and it must not be considered only for the origins of the subject. If the drawing is good, it's good, no matter who invented the subject on the focus point. <3
Yours is great, btw Goes to my faves ^^

many thanks for commenting on my Sephiroth piccie! Sorry this is coming late, but I had to tell you a big thanks. I'm glad you share my view of the fanart theme. It's one of those things that often gets overlooked since we often concentrate on the aesthetics. I hope my fanart is able to speak and go beyond pretty stuff.

I could totally see you doing trading card art. Your style would totally fit it.
I kind of can tell this might be based on older work of yours though ~ the pose is really rigid compared to your current things.
Colors on this are super awesome though. The contrasts are all right on and the colors are just restrained enough to go well together.

You know whatβ¦
1994 was a good year.
And Sephiroth holds a place dear to my heart for being one of the first guys with hair longer than mine who I find attractive.
But onto the way you drew this. When I look at this I see many many emotions coming from him and the epic background just adds to it. Amazing lighting by the way. And the deep brown tones are a little change from the usual but yet your coloring style manages to fit those purples into it. Fantastical job!
Ohhhh His face is so handsome.

RadiusZero In reply to unstamental [2009-05-26 20:56:21 +0000 UTC]
Sephiroth puts us girls with long hair TO SHAME. But definitely, I love a samurai-type of guy sporting long hair.
Thanks! Yeah, I'm experimenting with types of coloring styles. I love this blending feel to it. But I may have to find a way to bring back that old style of mine and see if I can successfully synthesize both styles. I love both so I want the best of both worlds.
faces are my favorite part to do. faces, alone, can tell you what that character is thinking.
