My second endangered shark for Shark Week, the striped smooth-hound (Mustelus fasciatus), a small houndshark only found on the continental shelf off of the coast of southern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Unfortunately, itsβ nursery grounds are operated in by several industrial fisheries. This means that it is frequently caught as bycatch, including juveniles that are caught before they can mature and breed. As a result, itsβ numbers have fallen by up to 96%.Related content
