Description
....Ok the title is probably rather offensive but I saw the opportunity for a portmanteau and I took it, ok?For the first round, I was given the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, or the celebration of the Jewish New Year (err, one of them at least; it's complicated and I'll link an informative web page that explains it better than I could). I did some research on the holiday (read: I googled it and read the first article that came up), and found some interesting tidbits of information about it, such as: there's no official "dress code," just don't dress up super duper fancy or super duper grungy and you'll be fine; the day is spent mostly in the Synagogue worshiping, and no work is to be done; it lasts two days; one of the foods commonly eaten during the celebration is an apple dipped in honey (yuuuummmm.....); and there's a long-standing tradition called Tashlikh where everyone puts some things (such as bread) in their pockets and heads down to a body of moving water (i.e. a river) and throws whatever is in their pockets into it as a way to symbolically cast off sins. The shofar (a trumpet-like instrument made from a ram's horn) is also sounded during this festival. A more in-depth explanation of the holiday can be found here: www.jewfaq.org/holiday2.htm
In making my symbolic outfit for Harmony, I was liberated by the lack of dress code and instead went for a simple dress and a flower crown. Instead of making an overly complicated outfit, I decided to make the different symbols of the holiday. In her outstretched hand she holds an approximation of an apple dipped in honey, while in her curled hand she holds the shokar. And at her feet is a flowing stream with bits of things inside it to symbolize Tashlikh. I greatly enjoyed learning about this holiday, and I'm proud of the design I've made!
For the last round, I went pretty simple outfit-wise with a patterned white shirt and a short red skirt. I put more effort into her facial details, where I extended her nose (someone's been ly~ing) and placed some markings around her mouth to look as if she has a nutcracker or wooden puppet's mouth (with the disattached jaw and everything). I also added a hat and some strings to her wrists. All in all I really like this round! It's simple, cute and fun! My all time FAVORITE round, however, would have to be this one: Specifically the Reef one. This is definitely one of my better dolls among the Challenge rounds I've done, and I keep coming back to it in sheer awe of how nice it looks! I've enjoyed every single round, though!
Now... did she want a summary of Pinocchio? Or The Little Mermaid? Hmm....... I suppose I'll give both:
Pinocchio in a Nutshell: This woodcarver creates a wooden boy who then terrorizes the neighborhood, kills a cricket/his conscience, has a nose that grows when he lies (so.... always), and is eventually executed. The End.
The Little Mermaid in a Nutshell: This mermaid girl goes to the surface of the ocean (probably when she's not supposed to) and happens to save a cute guy whom she become so enamored with that she gives up her tail and tongue/voice so that she can be on land with him and have legs. (FYI, when walking on said legs it feels like she's walking on sharp glass, needles, and other unpleasantly pointy things.) The thing is, dear old Princey falls in love with ANOTHER girl (another human who happens to maybe look somewhat similar to this mermaid girl???) and so Little Miss Mermaid is stuck on land forever. BUT WAIT! Her sister cut off all their hair in exchange for a knife (a much saner trade if you ask me) and tell the mer-girl that if she kills Princey-poo she gets her tail back and can be happy again. Alas, through blind infatuation true love the chick can't bear to kill this guy who scorned her (which is entirely unrealistic; if I were in her position I wouldn't hesitate to stab this guy in the back like he did to me!) and so she falls into the ocean and drowns/is turned into sea foam. The End. (Story probably retold by Resident Salt King and Son of This Version of the Little Mermaid Arion Neptune.)
...Oh, you wanted the Disney version? It goes basically like that minus the pins-and-needles part and the Prince and Mermaid living Happily Ever After. The End. ....Oh also they later had at least one kid. Named Melody. Yeah.
....I swear I'm in a good mood it's just that I can get kinda salty with fairy tales, sorry. It's probably Arion's influence.

Even though her Rosh Hashanah outfit is simple it's still beautiful! Especially with her red hair. And the information on the holiday was interesting, I enjoy learning about new holidays.^-^
I love all the detail in the Pinocchio one. Her nose and the lines on her mouth were great touches too!
Great job on both of these!!

Harmony looks so cute as Pinocchio! I remember reading the original story of the Little Mermaid and it doesn't end well, I was really surprised when I read it years ago. I kinda preferred the Disney version, and at least they gave it a happy ending. I truly love Hans Christian Anderson's stories, (Thumbelina, the Princess and the Pea, and the Wild Swans) are my most favorites.
There was one reason I didn't like the Little Mermaid is because, (not Ariel) Ariel's father King Triton overprotects his daughters 24/7 ever since he lost his wife, Queen Athena to pirates. He was so afraid of losing his daughters and Ariel reminds him so much of her mother. I disliked the part where he destroys the grotto and makes Ariel cry, I can't believe he didn't apologize after seeing her upset, (what a coward!) The part where Triton destroys the grotto and breaks Ariel's heart, (in my opinion) is one of Disney's most saddest moments.
When I was little, I used to think he was abusive, but when I read it in a Disney book on characters, I finally understood him.

Thank you! Honestly I'm of the opinion that Ariel's motivations weren't the most... mature reasons ever ("Daddy just doesn't understand my True Love™ for him even though we've never properly talked and I just low-key stalked him for about 15 minutes and decided, BAM, I'm madly in love with him and would give up everything for him!" isn't the greatest motivation ever) and that Triton was somewhat in the right (only somewhat though), but yeah he went way overboard on the overprotective front. Destroying the grotto was definitely overkill and was one of the more heartbreaking moments in Disney (somewhat up there with character deaths).
Buuutt yeah the Disney version is a little better than the original in that it has the happy ending (whereas the original, though most definitely better written, just has a lame moral like "don't fall in love with someone after 15 minutes of stalking them kids! It ends with certain death! Also, something about angels and heaven and stuff that was shoehorned in at the last moment!" I'mnotsaltyaboutthiswhatareyoutalkingabout). The original makes for an interesting character in the Ever After High universe though! Depressing, but definitely interesting. I admit Ariel and Triton don't always understand each other all the time about the humans and he thought they were like the pirates that killed his wife. Ever since he destroyed the grotto, Ariel left because she just had enough of his overprotectiveness and felt she was better off making a deal with Ursula. I know Ariel made mistakes with childish thoughts of being with Eric, she got to know him more, even if she can't talk. She didn't know that she was being used and I don't blame her for that.
Did you that Walt Disney was gonna make the Little Mermaid when he was alive? He was gonna make the movie a little faithful along with the mermaid's death like the original story, but somehow it got shelved. Ariel was gonna have black hair and a green tail in his version. Somehow, I'm glad he shelved it.
You're welcome for the favorite! Without Walt Disney, Disneyland, and those movies would have never existed and never inspire children to think of love and friendship.

True true. And I didn't know that! I know he had several projects that were shelved for a while but I didn't know that was one of them. It doesn't surprise me though.

Yes, before Frozen was made, he was going to do the Snow Queen and it got shelved too!

I think that one sounds familiar actually. I think I watched a behind-the-scenes thing about Frozen maybe and that was mentioned??? But anyway that also makes sense.
Did you know (you probably do) that he intended for Alice in Wonderland to be a live-action film initially, similar to Mary Poppins or the Swiss Family Robinson? I learned about that when I was researching his early works for a college paper. (FYI I don't recommend that unless you have extensive resources available because info about his animations before Mickey are few and far between. Unless you use Wikipedia of course.) He and a woman were working on it because she wanted the title role of Alice; it was eventually trashed/shelved however, and eventually the animated Alice in Wonderland was created instead.

Oh yeah, I heard of that, and he changed his mind to make it an animated movie, which I'm glad he did to be honest.

They look so good. And what you did to make that Pinoccio face is awesome.
But did you mess up the closing tag in your description? It has kind of stricken everything after certain point...
