Description Still very rough and needs more coloring and tweaking. The color swatches at the top are examples of what type of terrain each color represents and eventually I plan to make a key for it all. I've been using the swatches mainly as something for the dropper tool to keep consistently use the same colors for every terrain. Still need to finish coloring things in and smooth out all the colors as well as adding better symbols and stuff for the cities but gives a basic idea of my world and some of the major and some of the minor cities. Haven't included the names of the different places like forests and swamps and stuff.

I've made an extendedΒ map key and some lines of latitude. Do you want to see them?

At long last it's here!Β  I can modify the biome key to be more along the lines of real life biomes as opposed to Minecraft's biomes, fill in some blank spaces, and maybe add some longitude and latitude lines (all with your permission, of course). By the way, what do the grey areas and red areas mean?

Grey areas are mountains and the red areas represent active volcanic mountains. I couldn't think of a better way to represent them other than using my mountain color and subbing in red in the middle for magma/lava. Honestly have you seen Minecraft of late? They have gotten some serious diversity into the game in biomes to the point where they've very nearly covered all the real life biomes. I just did a general coloring so far in the places I knew for sure had certain terrain types. This is by no point a finish product. I still have several more cities and villages I need to add in and this lacking the names for any of the bodies of water, rivers, natural formations like plateaus and mountain ranges, as well as missing the names for certain regions of the area like Brackenmarsh (name of the swampy area around the city of Brindlemire).

The cities more fancy sounding cities minus Doren Om area the three major dragon capitals for the three clans of dragons and the one in the North off to the West by itself is the splinter clan from the Air Dragons that was disgusted by their clan's actions and formed their own city away from the rest.

I still need to finish coloring this and then clean it up and add things into it to make the mountains look more like what they are and the different areas to be more representative of what they are supposed to be. This is only a simplified jpg version of the real one that is a mutli-layered paintshop file that keeps the different layers separate so it's easier to modify and switch things around. I have a physical scratch copy I used as a reference for the cities I put into this one.

Β I refuse to believe that there is such a biome type as "generic"!Β

Heh that was my code word for I don't know what this is yet. Probably more plains, scrubland, or some type of hilly place. Think of that places in Middle Earth in LotRs where they traveled through wide open spaces with little copses of trees here and there and scattered shrubs and bushes. Wasn't sure what to call it so called it generic for now.

I'd say it's a mix of grassland and open woodland. Anyway, there are a few annoying critiques I have.
Β 1) Volcanoes, mountains, hills and mesas are landforms and not biomes.
2) I can't think of any rainforests right next to or in the middle of a desert.
3) I've toyed with the jpeg format, and I don't use it anymore because it messes with the image quality.
4) I've made a map key that I'd like you to take a look at.

We are talking a somewhat magical world and there are some species of creature that live in or around volcanoes and mountains exclusively. While hills might not be biomes they do however effect the way the land is and make it not flat grass lands or plains or such since the ups and downs of the terrain tend change how things work. So a large section of plains or grasslands that is very hilly is going to be the same as just straight up flat land so I divided the two up. Mesas are not biomes I agree, I just put that in to indicate around where I want the mesa or plateau type of formations to be. The "rainforests" near the large desert area are actually Oasis's hence them surrounding the larger bodies of water in the desert and some of the desert type areas on the coast are more beaches than desert. As I said the key isn't perfect and it's far from done.

I know that many desert like biomes tend to be cut off from other biomes by mountains especially when you are talking about transitions from one extreme to another, I believe the mountains tend to block some of the clouds and such which means one side might get lots of water and other side is more a desert type environment. If you noticed most of the deserts that are actually deserts (not the little patches near the coast or water) are usually cut off from other biomes except plain type ones or grasslands by mountain ranges. Also got to take into effect any magical influence that might be in place since the Primal Lines of Elemental magic can effect what terrain tend to form where and the havens of the four Primal Elemental Aspects. Most of those are in areas counter to their element to attempt to have less of an impact on the environment around them.

The large body of water near Akmesba is the Water Aspects haven hence the large body of the water in the middle of a desert. The rest tended to pick similar places that would benefit or not hinder the world around. Kuni the Fire Aspect is in the north beyond Aren'nis Sarn which has created a small unusual pocket of warmth in the cold arctic like environment in the North. Hot Springs and a large swatch of non-snowy land.
