GIANT FILESIZE AND IMAGE!
Promised myself I wouldn't make this tutorial so long. Opps.

Cross-stitching is quite simple. Don't let the length of this tutorial scare you D: It got longer as I added in the tips :c

I was surprised to see there wasn't much cross-stitchers on dA. Even more when I saw there wasn't a lot of tutorials on this D:

This tutorial covers the basics of it.

I started cross stitching around early 8th or late 7th grade when my mom got into it. c: She used to be a fashion designer, so she was good at sewing. Most of what I wrote in the tutorial was taught to me by my mom ^^ She is awesome. c:

Enjoy~

Oh, PS:
Thank you for the support, favs, comments. I haven't gone through all of them (I have some from the start of May!) but I promise I'll be looking through and replying to them today.

Thank you so much, and I really mean it.

Thank you!

And you should! Cross stitching can be very relaxing ^^ Good idea with the graph paper though. Someone else also suggested printing on graph paper (although you'd have to line up the pixels just right!)

Thank you so much! c:

You're welcome! And I actually am right now. Your tutorial got me going again. I'm working on a red flower. lol Also, it's hard to cross-stitch in a moving vehicle. ><

Ahh don't cross stitch in a moving vehicle! D:

Or at least do it when the car stops at the traffic lights or something xD; Don't strain your eyes--they'll get bad! D:

I didn't prick myself too many times. lol And it was just something for me to do on the way up to Chicago. Plus, I didn't strain my eyes. I always did it in broad daylight. lol

Wow, very nice tutorial... ^_^ I remember doing cross-stitch a long time ago, I don't remember why I stopped but it was a lot of fun. After finals are over I'll have to stop by the craft store and get some string and fabric! I'd love to see a tutorial on how to make your own patterns, by the way!

My friends where doing this before school started all the time. I want to pick it up but can't. Between drawing, crochet, gifts for others, reading, gaming, and my million hours online I would feel frantic to get it all done.

I don't let things sit well. I barely finish any books and I can't remember the last game. So slow at anything crafty!

I could use it. Mother and me fighting, me being dragged to do yard work the one day a friend I haven't talked to in a year can get on and talk.

quantum-force In reply to ??? [2009-06-07 08:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, it's been a long time since the last time I sew.
Now that my hands are pretty huge, I find it hard to make a doll or so for a festive, oh well.
My mother can do so too, but it's quite different.
I can't really remember how she do it, all I can remember is, the backside's all 'x'(duh)....
Quite a good way to follow, but I got tangled all the time because of the thread I take is too long ><

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RainCookie In reply to quantum-force [2009-06-18 23:13:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, haha ^^

Try shortening the threads c: Even though it gets annoying (since you run out quick), less tangles assured c:

wow I never thought of half stitching and then filling them back in x's!
It's seems really easier and that way if you make a mistake you can easily fix it!
I never thought of it that way!
Thank you for the useful tip!
