i have a question.
This is a really cool idea and all, but since my house is a raging ant farm, and this is mainly cinnamon, would ants swarm around my freshly created ginger ornaments? Just asking; this is a really cute thing to do!

RainCookie In reply to rapcatpizza [2009-12-22 04:38:07 +0000 UTC]
No, cinnamon is actually an ant repellent. :)

This is perfect!! Every year my friends and I make random gifts for each other for Christmas (cause we're poor high school students) and usually it's just burned CD's, cookies, and such.... I never heard of this before but now I have my idea for this year's gifts!!! Thank you for the tutorial!!

RainCookie In reply to Trin-Cubed [2009-12-22 05:17:45 +0000 UTC]
Aww, that's so cute! :) Thoughtful gifts > random expensive gifts (especially if it's something really random that you didn't really want!)
No problem! Happy ornament/faux cookie making!

is there a substitute we could use instead of glue so its edible?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to LittleBlackFrog [2009-12-23 01:21:16 +0000 UTC]
Then you'd probably want to follow a real cookie recipe.
A cookie made of mostly cinnamon and apple sauce would not taste good! :>

*GASP* I remember these! I have a bell that's cinammon scented and then I have a tree that looks like a sugar cookie! I'm going to have to convince my friends to do this with me!

Oh my god. I have a cinammon Christmas tree from, what, fifteen years ago? And it still smells delicious. I miss my childhood. Thanks for sharing this -- maybe I'll end up making some myself to relive it! <3

redundantxheart [2009-12-20 14:04:13 +0000 UTC]
I found that using water colors to paint the cookies with made their smell so much stronger, plus it's a easy way to decorate if you don't have any good paint laying around(like me, I used nail polish and water colors to decorate mine with. rofl).
By the way, nail polish is an /excellent/ way to decorate these too. The smell of the nail polish doesn't linger so you still got the cinnamon smell~
Thanks for this, I had a blast making them.

If i'm using frosting, do I need to mix that with glue too? Or will it dry on its own?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to mailelei [2009-12-20 07:42:59 +0000 UTC]
I tried the glue-frosting combo last year, and it ended up horribly.
I recommend using royal frosting :) the consistency is even, and the results are beautiful ^^
It also dries up really quickly

mailelei In reply to RainCookie [2009-12-20 08:32:07 +0000 UTC]
Yea, I just finished and the frosting is coming off and it's gross . When do you recommend putting the frosting on?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to mailelei [2009-12-28 09:38:03 +0000 UTC]
Ack, did you use royal frosting?
You should put frosting on after your ornament completely dries. That seems to work out the best
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
mailelei In reply to RainCookie [2009-12-29 01:07:22 +0000 UTC]
No I didn't use royal frosting. Is royal frosting the best choice when it comes to using frosting to decorate? But thanks for the advice
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to mailelei [2010-01-01 07:57:07 +0000 UTC]
Royal frosting acts like edible glue, so it's one of the favorable in my opinion c: For crafts like this, anywho
