Intel Database: Extradimensional Anomalies (EXA)
Written by Molly Lancaster,
UNTD Lab 3 Chief Researcher
The appearance of the Shadow Beasts on earth left scientists baffled. Nobody within the scientific community had any idea what they were or where they came from. Eye witnesses from the first attack stated that the creature came out of a large portal that manifested out of thin air. This, along with subsequent Shadow Beast encounters, has led to the predominant belief that they were beings from another world or dimension; travelling to our world via these portals. As a result, scientists have decided to refer to these beings as EXA.
The term 'EXA' stands for Extradimensional Anomaly, and as the name implies, refers to non-native beings from another dimension. Originally reserved for Shadow Beasts, it has since then become a blanket term for any creature that doesn't exist along the natural established order of earth, be it terrestrial or not.
The last five years have seen a surge in EXA activity, and it is for that reason that individuals such as yours truly, and UNTD Lab 3 exists. Magic is all fun and games, but In order to prevent further tragedies such as the Eastpoint attack from happening, we have to understand our enemy, their biology, their weaknesses, and how best to deploy our assets against them. If you are still somewhat interested in all that magical bore, Professor Noelle Gunstone, has made detailed reports pertaining to its basics and on magical artifacts .
With the ever evolving threats UNITE faces on a daily basis, it has become paramount that the organisation educates all of its members on the different types of EXA in existence. Of course such knowledge may be a bit too complex for your delicate minds to comprehend, but fret not. I have compiled a shorter, simpler report for your basic understanding.
As of now there are currently four categories of EXA in existence; Shadow Beasts, Mythics, Alphahumans, and Xenos. All of which we will briefly go over today.
Shadow Beasts
As mentioned earlier, Shadow Beasts were the first kind of EXA to be discovered in recent times and are the primary adversary UNITE is at war with. Originating from another dimension, these creatures are rather complex in nature and are the subject of its own report. However just to give a brief overview, each Shadow Beast is unique in its own horrifying way as they can take up just about any form. From spectres to insectoids and even monsters, an SB is quite literally a nightmares brought to life. Many of which have traits or features that seem to correspond to certain kinds of fears or phobias.
Despite their varying sizes and appearance, they all share three similarities with each other. Firstly, they all have jet black bodies highlighted by one of ten known colors. Namely: red, orange, yellow, lime green, emerald green, cyan, azure blue, navy blue, purple, and pink. This body is made of a substance known as anti-mana and is given form by the SB's core from which its accent colors a derived from.
Secondly Shadow Beats are impervious to conventional projectile weaponry. However, they are shown to react adversely to elemental attacks such as those generated by an Enforcer's NG-2 Quantum. Depending on the body structure of the SB, they may be vulnerable to either extreme heat, cold, or high voltage. Also contrary to earlier reports, energy weapons are an effective counter, albeit against certain types of SB.
Lastly, they can only be slain by EXA-02. Codename: Blackwing . This unique Shadow Beast stands out amongst others of its kind as it is the only one to be seemingly aiding humanity. When on the hunt, Blackwing is shown to summon one of ten different melee weapons; each with a color correlating to the secondary color of the Shadow Beast it is fighting. It is only through the use of this weapon can a SB core be destroyed.
At present, our Research into Shadow Beast is still in its early stages. However the past five years have yielded a plethora of information on their biology and material composition. New experimental weapons are constantly being developed in the hopes that one day we will be able to defeat one without the aid of Blackwing.
Agents in the field are to exercise caution when dealing with Shadow Beasts depending on their threat rating. Standard protocol involves using all resources necessary to ensure that the target does not attempt to flee the engagement zone. Once Blackwing has arrived, personnel are to aid it in suppressing the Shadow Beast until it can successfully defeat it.
Mythics
One of the most common types of EXA Mythics refer to the abundance of mythological beings and creatures that exist in our world. Mythics are mostly terrestrial in nature, meaning that they are born and raised on Earth just like humans or conventional flora/fauna. It is possible that these EXA were once a predominant part of nature until rapid expansion of humanity drove many of them into hiding, and possibly the fringes of extinction. Their sightings in present day have sparked much interest in many scientific and paranormal communities, many of which are quick to theorize that they were documented by early man and have become the basis of folklore and religion across the globe.
Almost all Mythics are known to carry the genes needed to create mana and will oftentimes use magic to defend themselves when necessary. Because they utilize same mana-derived magic as other EXA, it has become much easier for us to locate and track down these creatures in present thanks to the development of advanced sensor technology capable of detecting the energy signature of mana.
That being said, I have discovered that some Mythics have a biology which is similar, and in some cases, downright identical to humans. Because of this, I believe that it is possible for some of these humanoid-type Mythics to copulate with humans and perhaps even bear children! Though due to their isolative nature, it is very rare for such inter-species couples to come together, but not impossible. Oh, the thought of this is quite tantalizing! But I digress.
Examples of Mythics include, and are not limited to Demons, Goblins, and Dragons. You know, typical fairy tale stuff. However those which are genetically compatible include any humanoid being such as Vampires, Elves, and Mermaids.
When encountering a Mystic, all personnel are to refer to UNITE Data Hub to identify the type of Mystic it is and take appropriate measures based on its threat rating, and weakness. Unlike a Shadow Beast, Mystics are much easier to dispatch with the help of members from the Enforcer corps.
Alphahumans
The Alphahuman terminology refers to humans which possess special powers beyond that of an average human. These powers may either be natural or artificially induced into the individual.
While uncommon, some humans may possess the genomes required to generate mana. The amount is usually small and can only unlock some latent powers, like precognition or telekinesis. But on rare occasions, an individual may be gifted with a high enough mana capacity to fully unlock his/her true potential. I'm not just talking about your garden variety superhuman strength, or speed. I'm talking about fantastical abilities like pyrokinesis, shape shifting, or even flight!
On the other end of the spectrum, an individual's power can also be bestowed onto them artificially, either from EXA artifacts, or through the magic of science! While I can't give you the specifics on such objects (in fact, I would direct you to Professor Gunstone's report on it), I can mention that there is research ongoing by organisations such as Eon Corporation to unlock this hidden potential in normal humans. The results of these experiments have yielded a number of Alphahumans which may potentially replace conventional Enforcers on the front line.
Depending on the power, an Alphahuman may potentially be danger to not only UNITE personnel, but other civilians in the area. Careful negotiation and tact must be exercised in order to prevent unnecessary casualties and/or witnesses.
Xenos
The last group of EXA are simply referred to as Xenos. If an EXA does not fall into one of the above categories, then it will automatically be given this label. These EXA account for the largest majority of unknown entities out there, many of which are elusive in nature as they have yet to be captured or properly documented by UNITE. The key, defining trait of this category is that most of these entities are believed to be alien in origin; either from another world or dimension as a whole. Shadow Beasts technically fall into this category as well, but their vast numbers and appearance has justified their own category by high command.
Because of the relatively unknown factors surrounding Xenos, UNITE personnel are not to engage these EXA as their powers could very well be beyond anything ever seen. Priority communication with high command is required in order to determine the level of retaliation needed to bring it down.
Conclusion
It should be noted that these categories only serves as a guideline for classification as an EXA can exhibit traits from any number of these categories. Given the vast possibilities, it is technically impossible to cover every known EXA species out there. But as long as new and wondrous beings keep appearing on our radar, I will gladly take up the scalpel to examine every last one of them for the sake of science!~

Another lore entry completed, and just in time for Mermay as well. Pictured is Kai Neu hanging out with a heard of Malikubras, a friendly aquatic reptile native to the Pacific waters surrounding Kraekkaria. Kai has not yet been officially revealed by Jstar, but as you can see she has a bit of cosmetic changes done to her. This one took a bit more time as you can tell from the more complex background, but I'm damn pleased by how it turned out~
Credit for the Alphahuman terminology goes to Ironshadows .
EDIT: That moment when you realized you forgot to color her eyes, but have already uploaded the art to every social media site.

This turned out fantastic! I love the way the lighting and colors look here. The posing is also very well done. Your style continues to improve in leaps and bounds. Well done!
All these lore releases make me feel like I should do something similar. hmmm...
I think it's interesting that UNITE classifies Alphahumans as a (potential) threat.

I need to pay more attention to character details next time. lol
Thanks man! I took your advice on the patterns and decided to give it one more reminiscent of cow spots.

This information should be very helpful for the organization, it is better when you understand what you are facing.
It is interesting how the mythical creatures have lived peacefully underground, but the sudden appearance of the Shadow Beasts have displaced them and increased their sightings.

Huh, surely that’s no coincidence, isn’t it? Now the question is can there ever be peace between humans and magical beings?

Honestly, does it sometimes bother you when humans tend to be portrayed as “the evil race” in most movies? I mean, we as a species are flawed, but does that really mean we deserve to be seen as evil though? I mean, look at James Cameron’s film, Avatar.
Don’t get me wrong, but are you hoping we don’t take the same route with this series as well? Maybe UNITE isn’t evil at all as they’re being portrayed here. I mean, think of it this way: You share the world with beings who have powers that could potentially kill any innocent lives around them at any given moment, it’s like a time bomb you see and you need to find a way to defuse it.
And besides, what if not every magic being is responsible with their powers and don’t care if innocent people get caught in the middle of their shenanigans? And maybe what UNITE is trying to do here is in the name of national security. Next thing you know, we’ll end up having ourselves a “Civil War moment” at one point in this series where people are split over whether a checks and balances system needs to be put in place to prevent magic beings from caused more collateral damage as well as have hold accountability for their actions.
That being said, if no one, not even humans, can be trusted with magic, what do you think will happen to it in the end? Hopefully it won’t be a scenario just like in the Star Vs. the Forces of Evil finale. :3

Thanks for commenting, man!
Yup, its is possible that the Shadow Beasts are attracted to magic as well, especially those from mythical creatures.
