Description
Thousand ThronesWarhammer Fantasy Roleplay cover artwork.
Acrylic, approx 14" x 18"
Β© Black Industries, Games Workshop Ltd.
They had paraded for countless miles, yet still their cracked voices rang out in worshipful song.
This was a recently completed cover for the forthcoming WFRP supplement. I wanted to capture the classic grimy Warhammer feel, and mood.
I choose a palette that ranged form yellow to deep purpley-reds. I felt this was suitably atmospheric. Then to emphasis the focal point of the picture I put a green shade on the palanquin, and also centred the light source here, consequently becoming the lightest part of the picture.

They are not painted digitally - they are all acrylics.

In the UK it is available in every art shop. It is cut down to use as the card frame for paintings. It has a finish very much like smooth cartridge paper, either in cream or brilliant white.

Wow. This picture really has the dark and "Warhammer-stylish" atmosphere it needs. And the details, the details... Just what it should be like! Great work!

Simply Brilliant!
It conveys what WFRP is all about - and so many details... It makes it a joy to own the books and all the more reason to enjoy the game.
I hope the 40KRPG gets the same treatment.
May the Emperor's Light give you inspiration.

That's a shame - I'd love to see your take on some of the 40K subjects.
Look forward to your next piece regardless of subject.

I don't suppose we could convince you to do a contribution for the Emperor's Tarot project??
Hope you don't mind I added you to my watch list.
May the Emperor Watch over you.

Very nice work (although the link to GW was vague on the details, who are these guys connected to?). Your painting never ceases to astound!

I can't give too much plot away ( due to NDA's), but it is the cover for a Warhammer fantasy roleplay campaign called The Thousand thrones. It involves a big pilgrimage...

As soon as i saw this,i thought of the Battle Pilgrims from the Bretonnian list.
Im going to be starting a new Brets army soon, and have a big unit of these planned
I think you captured the description "They had paraded for countless miles, yet still their cracked voices rang out in worshipful song." really very well, think i may use this picture for colour references.

What is the signifigance of the scrolls, packages and seals tied to the undead? Is it part of the spell? This is fascinating, is it taken from some traditional occult reference?
π: 0 β©: 1
RalphHorsley In reply to MikeUnderhill [2007-08-23 07:57:18 +0000 UTC]
They are not undead - just look a little like it Warhammer is a very messed up world - lol
They are prayer scrolls, reliquary's, etc. All religious stuff. They appear a lot in Warhammer. The worship of the Gods is important, especially when directed against the forces of Chaos.
