Man, the T-85 X-Wing looks absolutely ridiculous. Compared to the T-70, which is small and sleek like it's predecessor, the T-85 is oversized and overdesigned.

Yeah, I certainly see your point, but I still kind of like it anyway.  I guess I just like that they took a chance and tried some different things, even if it only makes us appreciate the awesomeness of the T-65 and T-70 all the more.

Hello:

This is a very nice chart! I didn't expect the classic X-Wing to be larger than the one used by the Resistance . But I like the quality of the models!

Any reason why you didn't add fighters o other franchises? Like the Colonial Viper or your Starfleet fighter? It would be interesting to see them too

Thanks so much!  In answer your excellent question, I seriously considered including the original Mk I Colonial Viper (as well as some other fighters.)  But there is some debate regarding the actual length of the original Mk I Starhound Colonial Viper.  Apparently, when they made the full-sized mock-up of the Viper, they more or less made it to match the special effects miniature.  But somewhere along the line, they discovered that it wasn't going to fit into the truck that was going to be carrying it around from scene to scene.  So they shortened the nose so that it would fit into the truck.  (I believe that the vertical stabilizer on the full-sized model is also proportionately quite a bit smaller than what is shown on the SPFX model.)  As a result, the full-sized replica does not match the SPFX model.  And so fans to this day are left debating which Viper design is the "real one," and which dimensions are "official."  Several other ships that I like either have "debatable" dimensions or no established dimensions at all.  So I tried to stick with ships that have pretty well-established dimensions.

Also, the more ships that I add to an image, the smaller all of the ships end up being.  At some point, the ships start to get so small that it's just not fun any more.

PS:  I could have included the Mk II Viper, but I haven't built that one yet.

Ohh darn, that is bad... and I thought we have it hard about measuring the Galactica herself . What I would do is to match both vipers (mock u and special effects one) and calculate the size difference, hehehe. I mean, just use your model and calculate the size accodring to the mock-up + difference, it shouldn't add too much so the Viper should still reain in the 8+ meters lenght.

Good point there!

PS: the MK II Viper is an amazing design, you'll have much fun building it, but if I may, I suggest you to build the Scarlet viper (it has the normal colours though) designed by Richard  Hatch, that is a very good design to complement your TOS fleet

Hello:

It is curious indeed, but it is also curious the T-85 doesn't have Proton torpedo launchers while the T-70 does, so maybe the canon's New Republic made the T-70 as a more compact and modern version o the classic X-Wing, and then to make a larger T-85 that can accomodate new technologies more easily (so making it a far better as a multi-role platform).

You are correct! that demilitarization act caused that to happen. I think you would like a lot EC Henry's reimagination of that X-Wing, take a look at his videos on Youtube . Also he reimaginated the Y-Wing but it was before Episode9 came out.

I was also puzzled by the apparent lack of torpedo tubes on the T-85 until I read something recently.  According to the "Haynes Rebel Starfighter Owners' Workshop Manual," the T-85 does have torpedo launch tubes.  A technical schematic in this book shows the torpedo tubes being located in roughly the "usual" position along the side of the fuselage.  There is no clear explanation offered as to why the torpedo tubes are not visible, (or at least recognizable) on the model.  I'm just guessing here, but perhaps the tubes are hidden by a door or panel that retracts to reveal them when needed.  (Which would be pretty cool!)

Yeah, sadly, I suspect the real reason that we can't see torpedo tubes on the T-85 is because they probably just forgot to put them on the model.  In any event, I'm glad that they officially included them via the Owners' Manual.

Joe Johnston is the best!

I agree about liking that explanation! Because that means the NEw Republic fighter can keep a look of friendly-ness unless necessary, and that might also protect the launchers (and ammo) from attacks or accidental collissions .
