Description "I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace."

--Richard Brautigan

Maybe this is all Dr. Robotnik was aiming for.

That IS pretty horrific.  Poor Sally...

Also, that is deep.  It made Robotnik's philosophy sound more... attractive? (in theory)

Way past cool! It's always a pleasant surprise to find SatAM material long after it's end.

Mecha Sally rises!

Seriously? Huh. I might have to pick that one up. I haven't bought one since like.. #100 or so. There have been a couple I picked up here and there because the covers were nice, but I just don't like her characterization after the king came back. I can understand her going thru some shit after essentially having her power stripped from her... but I just never saw her as becoming this sensitive waif of a thing that she turned into.

If it's any consolation, the old writers responsible for that sort of crap have been removed (I think it was around #160 when it happened), and the new ones have mostly restored the comic to its original action-focused tone . Among other things, Sally has since been reasserted as the tough-to-beat heroine.

Oh wow... I remember the first time I saw the episode when Sonic has nightmares of her being roboticised. I cried for so long when I saw it.

Funny point: The light inside the roboticiser glinting off Sally's metal skin in that scene had the strongest impact on me. For about a week after I couldn't look at a flourecent light without crying.

I'm such a dork.

Oh wow, that's a pretty powerful reaction! Was there something particular about the scene that got to you so deeply?

Kaloyan-Alett In reply to Raveneesimo [2011-11-26 17:30:28 +0000 UTC]

I think it was her screaming. The idea of being roboticized and having your will taken away was scary enough for me but I don't recall ever in the show them showing someone undergoing the process of being turned into a machine.

So when Sally began screaming and looks as though she is in terrible pain then suddenly nothing... That really hit me hard. It was like you already knew what the roboticizer did but to actually see it firsthand is different than thinking of it.

Plus I really liked Sally's character a lot, I liked her design, I loved her confidence and attitude so to see that ripped from her was traumatizing in a way.

And like I said, the light glinting off her metal skin at the end of the episode. I'll share a story if you don't mindd hearing the rambling of an old nerd: That Saturday night my folks and I went to McDonalds for dinner, I still had the episode on my mind, but didn't tell them why I was feeling so sad. We got into the parking lot and my dad mentioned that McD's had Sonic 3 happy meal toys, which again brought me back to the show.

So we were making our way across the parking lot and passing under this tall streetlight with flourecent lighting, I saw the light glinting off the bumper of a car parked just under it and my mind just connected the light to the scene. I remember looking up at the streetlight and directly int the light and my brain seemed to just... I dunno, its difficult to explain.

It was like I was looking up into the roboticizer right then. Like I was in the machine.

Cities and lights always bring me bacck to Sonic to this very day. One of the most beautiful things in the world to me has been seeing the lights of Texas City from the Galveston causeway, the lights from all the refineries and the city itself make me feel like I'm seeing something from the cartoon in person. It actuaally makes me feel at peace and as I said I find it beautiful.

You and whomever else worked on that scene, and indeed the show itself, deserve to be called artists because you not only made me feel for a character but feel bad about the thought of her undergoing this experience. As well as giving me memories to cherish for a lifetime.

...wow. I just looked back on this and realised how cheesy and sappy that all sounds. But it's sincere.

This is amazing. I love how you draw the sonic characters, it's like, they look the same, but you give them your own twist of emotion. it makes them better. poor sally btw.
