Description
I really like drawing Twilight angry & self-righteous. Its a flaw of hers that I'm attached to.Of course, these are not on-model and are just for play. For some reason with all the gorgeous fan art out there, I feel weird uploading stuff like this.

I like it when you draw them slightly off model. The lines are looser, freer, more natural. When they're totally on model, they seem kind of constrained to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that for the show. Not that I watch the show or anything, no offense. I just like loose drawings, I guess. They're more emotive.

Thanks, yeah.. it's my preference. And no offence taken. I certainly realize its not everyone's cup of tea. At least as far as boards go I CAN go a little rougher/looser.. I have a *lot* of fun doing cartoony weird things with Spike (the dragon).

That's cool.
Yes, I would assume that a storyboard could be looser than the actual show. At least somewhat. I love looking at storyboards as well as sketches and concept type stuff. One of the many reasons I appreciate your galleries.

Yeah, It would be nice to have a place to access such things. Even special features on a DVD would be cool--so much goes into doing them and they just never get seen again. We did a calculation at AKA one time what each board page was worth... and yikes. XD

Oh man. I have had conversations with Chris (Eggy) and Kevin (AnimatEd) about not having special features on the DVDs (what DVDs there are) and that I'd pay GOOD money for some good commentary tracks and concept art special features for the Eds.
And when you say "yikes," what was the calculation you ended up coming up with? I'm rather curious to know now. :3

If you care, you should tell them. If you let them know there's actually a love for that stuff, they might actually follow through. I think that's how the Sonic SatAM show ended up being as in-depth as it was--the guys doing it had an understanding of the audience.

I have the Sonic DVDs and I was very impressed that they decorated the cases with fan-art. And the special features on the DVDs were really good and I was extremely pleased because I was a BIG Sonic fan when I was younger. :3
I think that is a good idea, to try to let the higher-ups know there is a market for that kind of stuff for EEnE. I'm sure they've heard it before, but every voice helps, I suppose. I guess maybe I could ... write it on Danny's facebook page or something. I mean, I don't know who I'd tell.

Thank goodness for character flaws, they always make things so much more interesting.

They do! It adds such a richness to the characters themselves. Infinite opportunities to push the character, etc...

I'm waiting for "Mother of Celestia!" to pop up in the show somewhere.

You should "suggest" it to the writers. Or sneak it into a storyboard.

I think storyboarding and voice recording are done at the same time, after writing, and before layout/animation. Therefore, sneaking it into a storyboard wouldn't get it said by a character.

"Sneaking" never works out. I'm upfront when I have suggestions for dialogue. The bulk of which is recorded BEFORE we board anything. Then if there are suggestions or changes, they're sometimes recorded after the fact in a separate recording.

Story meetings > writing > (song composition) > voice/song recording > storyboarding > layout/character building/background creation > animation > sound effects foley > post-animation voice dubbing > background music > final mixing > delivery.
Right?

Basically!
Although 'Design' comes in somewhere there between writing and boarding. We're usually given major props and characters mentioned from the scripts or we try to re-use. This also includes designing master backgrounds from which we (as boarders) derive alternative angles and such. The more information we give in the boards, the more they can just take a 'board pull' and use what we've done. This sometimes goes for props and characters as well if the design doesn't quite match the director's vision.

Is this true for other shows too, like Pound Puppies? Did you work on that show? (And for Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy, was this process similar also, or different because it was less digital?)

It's the same for Pound Puppies--But very different for the Eds.
On Ed, Edd n Eddy there was a script (more like an outline). Then boards. THEN Danny would go in himself and custom tailor the dialogue. Of course this meant that we had more opportunity to suggest our own dialogue than we do on Ponies. Whether he used it or not was a different story. Ha ha. Always gave me the warm fuzzies when he did though.

After a quick search, I determined that you are referring to Danny Antonucci .
Are you working on both Pound Puppies and MLP?

Ha, oh yeah. Forgot not everyone knows the ins and outs of the Eds. LOL XD
I'm *currently* working on Pound Puppies. I can't make a comment on MLP at the moment. My hands are tied!

I think that means that Pound Puppies might have a third season. Recently, I finished watching season one on Netflix, and I really enjoyed it. (I could definitely notice the switch in quality from episode 7 to 8.) I'm having problems with season two though, since I don't get The Hub, or iTunes, Netflix doesn't have it, and I have to wait about two weeks for The Hub's website to temporarily host it. I saw "Zipper the Zoomit Dog" today, though.
I also think you're not allowed to say anything about MLP because Hasbro wants to be super-secretive about it, darn them. They won't even deign to tell us if Season 3 has more than 13 episodes!
Anyway, I was wondering if you know anything about how voices are recorded on Pound Puppies. How similar is it to FiM? How many actors are in Canada in the same room, and how many actors "phone in" from the U.S. (Los Angeles)?
