Scythe:........

Raven: ...... uh... *Raven's vision goes blank for a second. His knees give away as he starts to drop*..... ! *but he manages to catch himself on his hands, instead of falling on his face to the canvas.

Scythe: ..... ....*stumbles back into the ropes, barely able to stand on his own legs, he puts his right glove to his bruise, which is throbbing in pain from the cross..*

Raven: *panting heavily... then thinking* .....No..... not now... *pant*.... just when I thought I had him... *pant* .... I blew it....

* sounds like a dull thud breaks the silence. Raven glances up and sees Scythe clapping with his gloves, a big grin on his face*.

Raven: ??

Scythe: Well done, Raven. I didn't think you'd do so well.

Raven: "So well?" but.... I lost...

Scythe: This might be a surprise, but you know what happened, just now?

Raven: I'm pretty sure you put me to my knees.

Scythe: Offhand, yes. But did you hear something during impact?

Raven: No...

Scythe: It was the bell- the second our crosses connected, the bell rang. You know what that means?

Raven: ....Not really...

Scythe: It means you held out to the very end. You were still on your feet.

Raven: But... even so, I went down...

Scythe: True, but you made it through 4 rounds, despite a hard fight: You took everything I threw at you and paid it back in kind. You also stood your ground against a cross-counter. You know how many fighters are scared to stare down something like that?

Raven:....?

Scythe: A lot. In fact, most amateurs don't last that long in their first sparring sessions. I'd say you accomplished quite a bit in this one.

*Raven slowly gets back on his feet, and takes off his headgear, Scythe's words slowly start to sink in*

Raven: You mean that?

Scythe: More than that. In fact, I'm proud of you- you poured everything into this spar- heart and soul. That's really worth something. You showed me the fruits of your training in those four rounds.

*Raven starts to smile*

Scythe: Even so, you've got a lot of room for improvement... I can help you with that.

Raven: You mean... you want to train me?

Scythe: Yeah. At the same time, you could end up helping me. You may not realize this, but I've been training for years, but I've still a few things to learn. Part of it means fighting stronger opponents, and I think you can help me there.

Raven: I see where this is going. You scratch my back...

Scythe: ..and I'll scratch yours. What do you say, are you in? *holds out left glove towards Raven*

Raven: ..... I'm so in. * 'shakes' Scythe's glove with his own left*

*While the sparring match draws to close, the two realize that more than the prospects of improving themselves, they found themselves forging a bond of friendship. One that would be greater than the victory in this match...*
