Crocs always leaves room for 12% more creep. He's a professional. = w =

Dino Crisis 3 meets Metroid? Anyway, he looks not as cute as original Crocomire and now he can be killed without feeling bad for it.

Yeah it's always easier to dispatch something monstrous and terrifying that's trying to kill you, as opposed to something borderline adorable, haha. I've always loved Crocomire, though when he jumps back out of the lava as a skeleton, he scared me a lot as a kid.

Love all your renditions of Super Metroid's bosses, but this one is my personal favorite; you turned Crocomire from a somewhat creepy cartoony-looking monster into a terrifying behemoth...

Thank you so much; I really had just the best time working on these. MS Paint is easily one of my favorite digital media. Crocomire is one of my absolute favorite of the series, so I knew I had to do him justice and make him some oozing, towering, inferno of a beast.
I would definitely like to finish the rest of these images some day, I still have Ridley, Botwoon, Mother Brain, the Torizo, etc.

You're welcome! I especially like how you're able to make a sketchy MS paint drawing look realistic by using the rough edges to your advantage to make the creature appear even more monstrous, that takes talent. You should be the one who's in charge of doing Metroid concept art for Nintendo.

Holy crap, that is an awesome interpretation of Crocmire! That thing used to scare the living hell out of me when I was a kid, heh!

Yes, he used to scare me SO much! His death scene is horrifying, but he was especially scarey when his skeleton jumps back up out of the lava, ohmigosh! : O

This is absolutely amazing. Your sketchy style is awesome, while your attention to detail is disturbingly good.
And the mist/fog/whatever around Samus Aran's legs give the pic a cool effect.
Hey, I've never beaten...Super Metroid...but I know that this is authentic and real.

Thank you so much! I really love Super Metroid. You should try to maybe obtain a copy of it and play it - it is such an incredible game, even by today's high standards. I happen to think it surpasses many modern games in fact.
The environment this creature lives in is almost exclusively molten, so that mist around Samus's legs is steam and/or roiling heat. C :
I drew all of this series of images in MS Paint, which gives it that appearance. I'd like to get back on this and finish the series.

Sorry about the long wait, I JUST saw that you had posted this baby. Theres only a couple problems I have with it. It might just be my horrible eyesight, but you've got too much detail and not enough definition. What I mean to say is, it's a big hulking monstrosity, we can see that perfectly. But I had to actually look around to find his head. I suggest making the lines around the head a little more bold. Then again, it might just be my bad eye sight. But with all of that said, when I finally figured out where everything was...This brought back nightmares of my childhood when I first played Super Metroid...o.o Awesome freakin job.

ravenshield In reply to TheBearBoneAlchemist [2007-04-10 02:58:40 +0000 UTC]
It's not your eyesight, he is covered in pounds of detail. I started this at his head, so when the body went on, I had work around the head without working over it. This just kinda caused the head to slip into the body. I figure the thing that could define him better would be if I were to colour this. The colours and shades would seperate his body better, but it's doubtfull I'll have the time to sit colour this or any of the Metroid pictures. : \
All in all, I'm glad you like it! : ) Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the kindness and the crit!! : D

Jesus, you started at the head and just kinda branched outward? That seems like it would be terribly freagin difficult. o.o

ravenshield In reply to TheBearBoneAlchemist [2007-04-15 05:08:38 +0000 UTC]
Haha, ya. I started at his mouth and moved outward from there. That's why I ended up losing his head in all that mass later, oops! .___. If I ever have time to colour it, it may be easier to see, but I...don't think it'll happen. It just requires too much time that I don't really have right now. I'm real glad you like it though! : D

X D surprisingly, they are actually quite detailed in the game. Way ahead of their time, I think. Of course, I did embellish a bit on them, just to add my style, but for the most part that's their design. : ) Thank you for the kind words!!

: D Thanks. If you wanna take a crack at it, I don't mind. : )
Goodluck, anyways. There's places where Crocomire's body lines fall into themselves - namely the area from the long flat of his muzzle and head is in front of his right front leg. He's got these three spikes/horns there, but they sort of get lost in the lines. Everything else is fairly visual, but if you have a hard time seeing where the lines of his head and face end, and the lines of his body begin, just let me know and I'll send you a link to just a picture of his head that I have from when I started this. That'll help to seperate the lines of his face there from mixing with the lines of his body/legs.

Yup! Then he pulls that super creepy cut scene where he's still somehow alive under there, and burts through wall a' spikes as just a skeleton before he collapses. Even after his bones tumble everywhere, I was still a little nervous to walk by him! X D He was just so unpredictable.

Man, if that thing wasn't a bitch and a half. I hate unkillable enemies that have to be disposed of in another, more strategic fasion. Awesome job on it! The appearance of the Crocomire captures the description of it's body in the game book, having the multiple rolls of sticky flesh and all that, but still remains faithful to their interpretation in the game/manual...Why did I sell my SNES!? T_T
