Description This is my siren. Many people misinterperet the nature of sirens, portraying them as mermaids. In fact, the siren is half bird. They live in the ocean, yes, but perched on rocks jutting out of it, not under the water. Final Fantasy got it right, but they're about the only people I've seen do them properly aside from a few other RPG's.

this is really cool, i find her body a bit odd though : / her abdomen(sp) looks starved anr yet her legs look quite muscular, eitherway, I think you protrayed the siren quite beautifully

hm, interesting interpretation, i prefer the mermaid interpretation, which i think although is less tuthful is generally more alluring...in mythology sirens were originally sea nymphs but were punished by a goddess (might have been aphrodite) by being turned part-bird, for allowing ophelia (another half goddess type person) to be kidnapped...

I just looked up that story. According to this source, the greek sirens were originally neiads that were changed into their avian forms by Demeter for not preventing Persephone (her daughter) from being taken by Hades.

Actually, sirens aren't exclusively greek but are recognized by many cultures around the world. But yes, I've heard something similar to that story. I've never seen a legitimate source linking them to mermaids however. I think that just came from artists with minimal mythological knowledge thinking sirens sit on rocks and tempt sailors - must be mermaids. Kind of like how Medusa became a nagini instead of a gorgon in certain pieces of work.

Nope - never saw it. But they were right, Sirens are supposed to be birdwomen; not mermaid as they're often portrayed. They just stayed out at sea peched on big rocks. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is another place you can find them properly portrayed.
