Acrylic and silver leaf and two kahelelani shells on Claybord, 24" x 36" (Did you know that kahelelani are the only shells insurable as a gem? I didn't! The shells were a gift. That's a story for another day, however.
)And a bit of red paper.
Probably a cat hair. Possibly a *me* hair, I am a messy painter.
I might have to run around in circles for a bit, if that wouldn't bother anyone too badly?

Dude. Duuuuuude. I'm not gonna lie, this looks pretty much exactly like my character Breaker , except longer hair and lack of a tattoo on his chest and- what's his eye color exactly? Cause if it's white I WILL DIE. I think I'll go die anyways cause this is so sexy and even though I know it's not fanart it's close enough in my eye to be so so excuse me while I hardcore fangirl this shit.
All of that aside, it's really so wonderful. I love the earthy tones and you nailed the anatomy perfectly of both the wolf and the man. I can't believe this is done in acrylics either, given (at least for me) they're VERY difficult to work with. And the textures. Oh god such wonderful textures. Everything has a perfect flow and composition too. I seriously envy each and last bit of this piece.
I can see why this would be chosen as a DD. Many congrats to you, man. Many many congrats.

Thank you for the kind words on this. It was one of those paintings that I fought and fought with, so I completely lost all sense of perspective with it. It's awesome to hear that it works for people!

I have hugged this comment several times today - thank you! Because I am curious - did you see the handprint on the wolf? In person, in the gallery, some people didn't see the wolf at first, and some people saw the wolf but not the handprint.

I must admit I did not see the wolf at first, too taken up with the beautiful hair! And I still can't find the handprint... Oh, there it is! Ok, that made me love this even more, if that were possible!

I wish I could claim that it was deliberate - the wolf not being visible at a glance, and the handprint even less obvious - but it wasn't. So now I am left going 'Hrm' and wondering if I *can* manage to do it deliberately next time.
How did you do that?
I have... no idea.
I get moments like this, erm, more often than I'm entirely comfortable with. So much for my cool, professional artist demeanor.

The textures are many! Some of them weren't exactly intentional, but the ability to snfff and say 'I Meant To Do That, Of Course' is one of the (few) perks of being an artist!
The show! I had completely forgotten about mentioning that here! It went well, and I was pretty stinkin' pleased - people weren't nearly as off-put by the subject matter as I was afraid they'd be; I really think I was just being overly, err, stuffy or something? I pretty much fretfully assumed that everyone would think I'm a freak. Noone seemed to!

I think this man was raised by the wolf. But not just like... like "that". I feel like he was probably well acquainted with the human world, but as a small child, saw the wolf and decided that he needed to save it from humanity's cruelties, and so he ran with the wolf and lived in the wilderness.
But then as he grew and roamed the wild with his white friend, it became more desperate. I think the title applies to both--the wolf is fragile because it is a beast that is slowly becoming more and more restricted in a modern world run by humans and electricity, and the man is fragile because he is not as strong, and he has sentiments that trouble his judgement in survival and in emotional health (<--the last one is kind of off, I mean something more like... sanity? if you know what I mean XD). So they're fragile companions to each other.
also he's bleeding O_O so I'm assuming this is also an artistic rendering of the common bond between "humanity and the wilderness", and in this one, humanity is losing. But in a way that it damages wilderness too--since he's bleeding all over the poor beast--though both enjoy the damage as that's what proves that the bond between them is existential, and not imaginary. If you kill something and it doesn't bleed, it's like it never lived at all, right?
