Description
Printer abuse, take.. eh, 3 or so. I got the idea from :icon'ursulav:, who works up a something digitally, then prints it out and bangs at it with traditional media.I can't get thick paper through my printer, so in casting about for something else to stuff in it, I found some watercolor canvas. Hmm, I said.. the printer made horrid noises
So, this is a digital print (I overprinted it about four times, actually), with metallic inks and acrylic paint and pigment pen and pastel and all manner of things worked on top of it.

Wow... The color of the shadows on the wolf's pelt are beautiful! That's a really interesting idea, what you did with your printer there. You know, most printers cease to function after two years anyway, no matter how well you treat them, so you might as well take advantage of the thing while it works, that's what I'm saying.

Hi hi!
Oh, I totally owe you a comment from ages ago; I'm sorry. Life has been trying to eat my brain lately. That, and a very good series of books.
Anyway, so far, so good? The printer makes some strange noises when it has to feed the heavier paper through, but I don't think it's hurting it. The fine canvas that I used for this piece is nowhere near as stiff as heavy photo paper, so I think it actually fed a bit better. Mostly my printer just isn't meant to have thick stock jammed through it, it's a U-path.
Give it a shot! It's fun. My favourite surface lately is lightweight bristol.. it runs through the printer nicely, is heavy enough to take some abuse (once stuck to some matte board), and has a nice tooth. The dude with the crazy crazy gold foil background was done on bristol.

A good series of books?
It's not... It's not... It's not...
It's not Twilight, right?

WUT U SAY!?!?
UGH! I am not speaking to you for half an hour!!
...
There, that was half an hour. Do you feel chastised? You should! Humph. Full disclosure, because I like you and your snarly cat: I've read the Twilight books; the first was a gift by someone hoping to suck me into their addiction, the rest were borrowed and then promptly returned to the same person; and at that price (free), it would take far worse for me to regret reading it. In this way (and only one other, which I can't tell you about without carding you first), I am a very stodgy adult-type person. This was expensive, and it sucked, and I am therefore pissed!! The Twilight books were Kami in a huntseat saddle, THIS is all it takes to make the NY Times bestseller list!? What did they draw from a hat or something? Good grief, I am glad I didn't pay to read these...
No, I didn't see the movie. But do you want to know the truth? I wish I had: the friend I borrowed the books from did see it, several times actually, and she said that every time Edward came on-screen, every teenage girl in the rather packed theatre actually screamed. That would have been effing hilarious. I would have paid for that experience.
Now then, the series I DID read, and am still reading (6 damned books, nearly 1000 pages each..!), is the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey.

That synopsis makes them sound complicated (they kinda are, I guess), and boring (they aren't), but most summaries play up the sexual angle until they sound totally trashy, which they definitely aren't. The only fair comparison that I, personally, can make is Dune - intensely political, but really it's about the people, the world. Definitely not hard-boiled political John Gresham type stuff. The romantic angle is utterly addictive. Le happy sigh.
There. Long answer to a short question / horrible accusation.

You actually read them? That is fantastic. I will use that knowledge to blackmail you later.
I did see the movie, though. It was hilarious. At a certain point I laughed so hard I peed myself a little. And yes, all of the teenage fan girls totally screamed every time things got steamy. I really want to see BrΓΌno, but I'm afraid that it simply won't be as awesome of an experience as watching Twilight.
I am a very adult person too, generally, but I am not above reading good fantasy if it's well done. I have a horrible plane trip to Japan coming up in a few weeks, so I think I will atone for my horrible accusation by promising to read the first volume or two of the Kushiel series on the flight.

I'll say it again: I like this one better than the rest. Maybe it's the stark background or the way the coat of the wolf came out kind of ...fuzzy. Maybe the fewer colours give us a chance to really look at the wolf and not be distracted. He's looking at his shadow like he's wondering why it doesn't look right. Shouldn't it be taller? And four legs...why four. ...something is not right....

That looks wonderful. Your wolves all have such personality

Holy wow!!! Thank you! And to be honest, I really didn't want to post this one, because I was rather meh about how it turned out.
*bounce* Now I want to paint another.
I could hug you for saying that they all have personality; that's something I strive for more of in.. well, everything, no matter what I'm drawing. It's fun to try with the wolves, since I draw people so often.

I wrote a fantasy novel awhile back (which is terrible I admit but I'm the process of editing it.) Anyway, there are several wolf characters in the story so I've drawn them a few times and looked at a lot of references but I find it exeedingly difficult to capture that kind of personality in my drawings (and they certainly have it in real life).
That's why I noticed it in your image. It's quite well done. And I don't think it looks meh at all!!

Oh dear, it took me forever to crawl out of my hole this time.. I am so sorry!!
I am glad that you noticed the expressions the wolves have; I argued over that endlessly, trying to draw them.. it was rather tough! You'd think it would be easier, since you can cheat a little with the ears, but it's not. I also didn't want them to look like Balto wolves; nothing wrong with that style, but I wanted very wolf-ish wolves. Yeah, that's.. very technical, I know. XD XD I just didn't want them to be cute.
Anyway, ramble ramble.. thank you so much!! I overanalyse like crazy when I'm doing something different, I get just silly over it, so I really appreciate it when people point out the bits that are working.

GLEE! Thank you!! It wasn't hard at all.
If you ever want to try it, let me know, and I can explain in boring, exhaustive, smack-me-to-hush-me-up detail. XD
Okay, maybe I'd sum up here and there.
Anyway. Gleeeee! I wasn't sure about this at all, but I had so much fun doing it, that I hated to just not post it.

You're welcome! ^-^
Thanks for the offer! I'll definitely come running to you if I want to give it a try, haha.
Well I'm glad you posted it.
