Lovely work as usual. My idea for propelling missiles from my ship was similar; shove missile in big metal box, evacuate box, open door, shoot missile into space with gas, light big rocket, cross fingers! If you use the same method, then it must be a sensible approach!

It's pretty much how one goes about launching a nuclear missile from a submarine, so you could say that this one has real-world backing.

Nasty piece of military hardware... I wonder, what is the exact effective range of this thing (of course, depending on the maneuverability of the target)?

The effective range would be just about anywhere in a solar system if the target didn't move. In any other case, if the target had less delta-vee than 28 km/sec to spend, it can be hit. The only question is how long it will take for the missile to get there.
