A perambulation through the Jardin des Tuileries is always a good idea for an outing in the week-end, whether the aim is to get some rest from the hectic life of the city, be seen while promenading, or simply soak up the sun. On that October day, having a closer look at the art on display in the gardens was ruled out, however. A benevolent mellow light and the exuberant blooming of autumn flowers effortlessly distracted the attention of strollers from the somewhat gloomy marble statues which are permanent residents of the Tuileries (just visible in the background : a melodramatic 'Wretchedness of Man' on the left-hand side and a stricken 'Cain having just killed his brother Abel' towards the centre of the picture...). A true triumph of nature over culture.
