Description
Good afternoon!Today I am making a quick kinda post. Lots of work to get done over here!
For todays sketch, I am posting the inked and coloured Spidey sketch from day 2, as well as a couple of others done since. I would really have loved to do a full bodied version of him in some crazy kick ass pose, but alas...These are just sketches, and colour experiments...
The Spideys on the blue background are coloured and inked traditionally. I used markers and pencils for colouring. The bottom one was my second attempt, so it turned out a little smoother and cleaner (I think).
The sketch on the green background.... I was a little ashamed of this one actually. I liked his head and eyes, but the body is all jacked up! haha. Still, it's my first attempt at some digital colours on Spidey, and so it's worth a show.
I received some cool McFarlane Spider-man comics in the mail today so I'm happy!
Thanks for looking!
J.

Hey AJ,
Well, I mostly use a col-erase non-photo blue pencikl for my rough underwork. Then I use an H pencil to go over the top. I think the key is to keep the pencil sharp while you draw. The variation in line weight comes at times naturally, as your pencil becomes blunt. it's nice once you get the hang of it. If I am inking myself however, I do exactly the same as you are! I use H pencils for the rough, and then ink over the top. I use a brush, drawing pens (I have been using copic markers lately) and rarely a nib with ink.
If I had the skill though, I would definately use the nib alot more for inking, as I love the lines you can acheive from it. If you get good at inking with a nib, you are definately onto something. They are hard to control at first, but nothing is as clean and precise in the right hands. (hunt 102 crowquill is the prefered nib of many great inkers)
Hope that helps dude! Sounds to me that you are already on the right path though!

Cheers mate... What would be really funky is a mad graff style version of Spidey... I may have to cool one of those up when I get the chance.

thanks... I guess it's important to me to get a unique look on these iconic characters. If I can acheive that, I will be happy.
