UPDATE: Since =anikakinka and =gazdowna made me remember about TRIA's problems with their caps and the ink getting dried, I decided to update my tutorial about it. It seems that the first batch was defective because the caps do not close correcty. If you have your Tria markers completely dried out, try to take off the nibs from one side and pour some alcohol (thanks KnP for your advice)I finally finished the first part of my marker tutorial I promised you a very long time ago. I'm really sorry for making you wait but I had some serious problems with covering all the most important things. I'm aware I din't not explain everything but I will try to tell you more in the second part where I will concentrate on coloring with markers.
I'm not gonna describe Prismacolors or Touch markers because I didn't use them myself. Also, I can't give the proper addresses of places where I bought my markers since some of them I got via Ebay and other in some art shops in Poland (mainly in Warsaw). As far as I know, you can buy them on Internet.

What kind of paper did you use? For markers there are special marker pads which prevent drawings from getting drenched with marker ink.

And I used canson Mi-Teintes, it's actually for pastell, 50% coton and 75;b (don't know what you need to know haha)
I also tested it on 'normal' paper and on canson dessin 85lb. But on all the papers it sounds so dry, I can't color evenly
and I don't get the water color effect I was hoping for either.
The shop I bought this paper did sell special marker paper, but it was quite expensive, especially considering I only
have one marker and I wanted to try it first.

Umm.. I don't recommend pads for pastell. The thing is that marker's ink is quite wet and it recquires thick (I use Cream Mi-Teintes Canson A4 sheets, they've got a nice texture and marker ink blends nicely) or wax coevered pads .
The second one is quite expensive and it's covered with wax on the other side to prevent ink from soaking. The paper is very thin but the wax works here perfectly. In my opinion, it's one of the best paper to get a watercolour effect.
Unfortunately, the really good marker pads are not cheap ;/.

Just to make sure. The woman in the store said I could make the markers wet. I think you'll ruin them, but I am not sure. Have you ever tried that?

Nope, I didn't try to make them wet. I know what to do when the markers get dry. You have to pour the drop of alcohol on the tip of the nib.

Anyone know about the Korean Touch Markers? They have the same effect as copics without the ridiculous price.

I would so want to own copics, for the many colours, but they are too expensive and harder to find! Where I live, I have found promarkers in shops and online, I got mine because I saw them in Hobby Craft... that place is beautiful... but Copics are like no where to be seen!!! ...except maybe online...

Promarkers are almost the same expensive as Copics

I own Touch markers they are actually very good.
But I like the ciao markers because of their brush tips.

I think I must work like you do, Promarkers for the base colouring and big areas, Copics for shading and blending on top. Where are you that Trias are cheap, though? I'm in England where they make them and they cost just as much as Copic sketch, sometimes more

This tutorial was great on learning the other marker types I hope to find the tria and pro markers in store. Touch and prisma are great, prisma are very very similar to pro markers, touch is similar to copic except there skin colours are amazing!

I assume that if I print a picture onto my special paper, the ink of the markers wont make it smudge?

You need to check it first on separate sheet, some printer inks smudge, some don't. The general rule is that black laser print and colour ink don't, but that still depends on producer.

Very nice tutorial! Since the shop I go to stopped selling individual Prismas, I've been trying to figure out what other markers (besides Copics -I really like the brush nib, though I only have 1 Copic and it's black) I could use. This is helpful!

I'm in love with this tutorial. I like doing traditional art, and am glad to see some of your most helpful tips!
I also hate how pigment pens (alcohol based) would smudge my work like crazy. :C So you put it in the scanner...and print it out. So the paper you use, does it print out well? What size do you use? I work really big like 14x17 sometimes. But usually bigger than 8x11.I use Bristol board since I love the smooth surface, yet I get nervous using them cause I feel Bristol board absorbs a lot of the marker enough to dry it out. (I mean it's a great surface but it dries my markers up so fast :V) So what kind of paper would you recommend with a smooth surface that doesn't dry out the markers and something that is easily printable. Since Bristol isn't printable. It's really thick paper.
I use Copics and Prisma. I've mostly put Prisma away because I prefer Copics better. I say if you want to know what prisma is like, it's mostly like Tria markers. And they have a smell to them, but I've smelled worse potent markers.

Very useful! Do you know if Copics can be mixed with Pro Markers well? Because I was thinking it would be nice to be able to fill large areas without getting that "snowy" appearance, but still be able to use the Copics for shading.

Oh god I didn't know the copics was the most expensive 
I allso found that the black holders for the markers make the markers dry out on the nib that is pointing upwards, while the nib pointing down in the holder gets all the ink. I then put them in a plastic bag and made them lie down in stead. Was that a bad choice?
Is there anything I can do to make them work again other than paying loads of money to get them shipped and refilled?(I live on an island with no copic marker shops

Dip a bit of blender (clear alcohol should do to) onto wide nib and wait. It's usually the alcohol that evaporates, though this technique will thin the dye and the markers will be lighter in colours. Also you can buy a refill from internet store like this [one ] and refill the markers with new ink.
As for the drying of one side due to them standing- I had never had that probelm, though I store all of my markers this way, but I've heard that opening one cap for a bit and letting the marker compensate the pressure inside the barrel helps. But I never tried this one, so I'm not sure it works even.
