Description
Since many people asked me how I edit my traditionally made drawings in Photoshop, I made this tutorial today to explain everything as clearly as I can. I know that scanners often ruin the colors and that's very frustrating. I hope my tips will help you with that problem. There are some screenshots where it's hard to find any differences between them but it's just because of the picture I chose for this tutorial (my scanned image is actually very bright and clean).
If any problems, don't hesitate to ask me :]. I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 for this tutorial but I think other versions should allow you to do the same as me.

You can do this with pretty much any scanner and any raster-based art program. Some details might be different, but the general process with work in any program that has blur filters, color adjustment and layer options.

Yeah but my scanner is awful...

Check whenever it has been properly calibrated. My cheap-ish scanner occasionally adds a line in the middle of the scanned document every now and then, but running the calibration fixes that. Of course, if your scanner has damaged glass and/or non-functioning parts, then it's a problem. If you have a decent digital camera, you could try taking pictures of your artwork in daylight and still post-process them with similar methods as in the tutorial.
Good luck!

Sorry for late reply!
Thank you!!!I appreciate your offer very much!I don't have exactly many experiences with PS(or at least not as much as with traditional art) and I'm not the kind of person who would do experiments with it so there are many things I didn't figure out yet, so advises and tutorials are very much appreciated
Huh, it reminds me I didn't visit your gallery yetI'm still dealing with terrible mess I have in my message center after my more than year nd half long absence here
I'm kinda overwhelmed

Near the end of the tutorial you say to 'duplicate the layer of your drawing again and blur it with the gaussian blur filter' But didn't you already do that above? Do you do it twice or something? I'm just wondering cause I got a bit confused XD

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to TawnyTyto [2013-11-06 20:03:02 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I did it twice. First on the big 3000dpi version and at the end when the image is resized.

So every traditional drawing have to be edited? Pencil, Crayons and watercolours?
π: 0 β©: 1
Red-Priest-Usada In reply to Rollinlol95 [2012-02-29 17:22:28 +0000 UTC]
No, of course. Everything depends how your work looks after it's scanned. Sometimes scanners do great job so you don't need to edit everything.
