Description
One stormy night, Mike Carter, also known as the superhero Booster Gold, was working on his battle suit’s technology. His robot assistant Skeets floated into his corner of the workshop, which Mike shares with his friend and fellow hero Ted “Blue Beetle” Kord, and Skeets claimed that he has a phone call on hold. Mike shooed Skeets away and returned to working on his tech. With the strides made in time travel technology discovered by his fellow heroes in recent years, he feels that he can perfect it and integrate it into his suit. After all, his superhero persona is supposed to be that of a time traveler from the future, using knowledge of the past to save the day. But, just when he returned to working on his technology, a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky, through the window, and struck the prototype chrono-anchor unit Mike was tinkering with! The blast threw Mike backwards and then a wormhole opened! Mike, yelling about why lightning bolts keep striking their workshop, and Skeets, telling the person on hold to ‘call back in about an hour’, were both sucked into the wormhole, along with the Booster Gold suit and other bits of the workshop. Mike and Skeets ended up in what appeared to be a destroyed New York City, and saw several robotic guards patrolling the roads. Mike hid from them and donned his Booster Gold suit while Skeets kept an eye out for more of those robots. A woman walked up behind Booster Gold and held a gun to his head, demanding he turn around with hands up. As he did, Skeets returned and saw this, launching a taser bolt at the woman. She dropped her gun and Booster held her in an arm bar, asking what was going on. Then another Skeets-like robot attacked Skeets in her defense, and she demanded why Mike was “wearing her father’s armor”. Mike and Skeets stood down and he removed his helmet, and the woman recognized Mike as a younger version of her late father! Her name is Rachel Hunter, aka “Rip Hunter”, and she’s Mike’s daughter. Her robot, built by her, is named Jeff. Rip explained that it is the year 2049, and that the city of New York is currently under occupation by Extant, a supervillain commanding powerful technology and an army of weaponized androids. Her father Booster Gold and his best friend Blue Beetle were killed by Extant already, and many other heroes and villains who opposed him were either killed or imprisoned in his base. Rip and other remaining heroes formed a resistance front. Rip and Jeff led Booster and Skeets through the city, evading the killer robots, until they reunited with the resistance. The leader of this resistance is Jaime Reyes, a former student of engineering under Ted Kord who took up his alien battle armor to become the new Blue Beetle. Booster Gold explained that he met another version of Jaime before, who led another heroic force against a team of extremist vigilantes called The Syndicate. Booster Gold and the members of the resistance convened and planned their raid on Extant’s base, a massive fortress he set up in the middle of the city. But then, Extant’s robotic army invaded the resistance’s base and they had to fight back! Booster, Rip, their robots, and Blue Beetle fought their way through the crowd of killer robots and had to make it to Extant’s fortress. After getting inside it, the team found cryo-stasis prison cells containing this era’s heroes and villains, all of whom tried to defeat Extant. They reached Extant’s throne room and the villain turned to face them. Booster recognized Extant’s face being that of Hank Hall, a villain from his day known as The Monarch. Extant explained that he is Hector Hall, son of Monarch and Lady Quark (aka Dawn Granger). When he was an infant, his parents were re-incarcerated for escaping prison and Ted Kord, finding out they had a child, adopted Hector. Hector grew up and eventually learned of his true parentage. Hector broke his parents Hank and Dawn out of prison and they led him to a base of theirs that the heroes didn’t discover yet. As Blue Beetle, and in his new battle armor, Ted Kord found Monarch and Lady Quark and battled them, accidentally killing them both. Hector disappeared with his parents’ tech, swearing revenge on his adoptive father. When he reemerged as Extant, he took over NYC and began subduing and killing any heroes and villains who tried to stop him, starting with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Jaime became the new Blue Beetle and Rip, who loved Hector before this, swore to avenge her father. Extant and his robot army attacked and the villain activated the countdown for an anti-matter bomb that would destroy Manhattan. They defeated Extant, but Jeff managed to fly the small anti-matter bomb into space, where its detonation only destroyed Jeff. Skeets mourned his robotic brethren, along with Booster Gold, but Rip says she has multiple copies of Jeff and can just activate a new one (“What? It’s not like you don’t have multiple copies of Skeets, right?”). In the end, the heroes deactivated the robot army, restored peace to New York, and freed those imprisoned by Extant. Hector Hall was tried and imprisoned. Mike and Rip finished a new time-travel module for Booster Gold’s armor and it safely opened a wormhole that Booster and Skeets used to return to their time. Back in our time, one hour had passed since they disappeared, and another phone call began to ring. On the line was Veronica Hunter, a woman that Mike had slept with about two weeks ago…
