Description
Jefferson Irons Jr., a NYC high school shop teacher, was grading essays one night while his teenage daughters got into a heated argument over such-and-such boy at school. Bills were strewn about, calling for payment on the Queens suburban house they were renting and this was the lenders'ultimatum. He then noticed his e-mail was going off. The e-mail was from an anonymous person calling themselves "The Outsider". He knows about Jeff's skills in electromagnetic engineering and is willing to pay handsomely for his assistance in a "deniable operation". Jeff was instructed to "bring his suit" to a location outside Jersey for further instructions. Jeff told his daughters that he'd be back as soon as he could. He entered his garage, which he had converted into a workshop, and took a glance at the picture on his desk of him and his father. Jeff Irons Sr., back during the Civil Rights Movement, was Lightning, a member of the battlesuit-wearing heroes known as The Metal Men. Jeff Jr. was inspired to recreate a sleeker, more modern version of his father's battlearmor and electricity-controlling gauntlets. He packed the suit up and headed straight for Jersey in the dead of night. The address took Jeff to an abandoned factory. He parked the car, donned the new Lightning suit, and made it inside. He was unsure of what would be happening, so Lightning snuck in and ended up seeing a woman in a business suit with a sword in a scabbard strapped to her back. The woman felt the presence behind her and tossed some shuriken into the darkness. Lightning reacted, blasting the blades out of mid-air with his powers. He asked her if she was The Outsider, and she started running towards him, ready to pull out her sword. Jeff noticed the scars on her throat and tried to communicate with American Sign Language. She stopped and took her hand off her sword. She signed back to say that she's not the Outsider, but she got the same e-mail from them. Another voice said that he also thought one of them was Outsider. This person was a teenager in a blue private school uniform, except very muscular and appearing to have a head made out of metal and hands and bare feet made out of other materials. Jeff introduced himself the woman introduced herself as Tatsu Yamashiro, and the young man, who also knows ASL, as Reginald "Rex"Mason. Then the voice of The Outsider himself came over the long-abandoned intercom, saying he hired all three of them for an important job, one worth 2 billion dollars for each of them.
The target is Stagg Enterprises' upper New York corporate headquarters. Simon Stagg, one of the richest men in America, has his fingers in many pies and is looking into running for President. The catch is that he is connecting with several political extremist groups he shares views with to secure their votes. One of his assistants, J. Allen Carter, was to make contact with a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan when had been, as he claims, "abducted by aliens". The Outsider, disguised as a cop, extracted a confession out of him regarding his meeting with the Klan, and now seeks to expose the truth of Stagg's corruption, no matter what. They'll need more concrete evidence, though...
Our trio, with Tatsu going by the callsign "Katana"and Rex going by "Metamorpho", spent the day driving to Stagg Enterprises in New York. Their plan of attack was to have Metamorpho, able to disguise himself as his normal human form, infiltrate the building using his preexisting relationship to Stagg's daughter Sapphire Stagg, while Lightning sabotages the security system and Katana ghosts her way into Stagg's main office and hack the computer for the data. Outsider provided them with communicators, including a text-to-speech one for Katana, and Metamorpho, being a magic user, will wear a pendant that will disguise him as a normal-looking human provided by his mentor. As the party to announce Stagg's nomination to the 2016 race, Rex approached Sapphire and her father and told them he was going to accept his job offer with his presidential campaign. Simon was glad, and he had his chief assistant, Matthew Malone, show Rex to the building's campaign offices. Meanwhile, Katana and Lightning made their way into the mainteance tunnels of the facility and into the main power grid. As Rex walked to the office, tendrils secretly emerged from his body, pass through the illusion, and planted a couple of scanners (courtesy of Outsider) on a security checkpoint that could allow them to access the frequencies of the guards comunication radios.
But, when they reached the office, the guards patted him down and then asked he remove the pendant, saying that all campaign employees wear no other emblems outside of his campaign logos. Rex protested that it was unreasonable, but the guard up and tore it off him. He was horrified by Rex's real form, but his mouth was clamped shut before he could scream! Metamorpho then swatted away the next two. One of them brandished a shotgun, but Malone knocked him out! Malone claims that he has been undercover for the Outsider for longer than they have, and he's going to help them. Lightning heard what was happening and completely shorted out the building's power supply to weaken Stagg's forces. Katana was half-way to Stagg's office when security figured out the presence of intruders, and they began swarming her. She fought past the guards with her assassin skills, and finally got to the office. She began the download when more guards, with heavier weapons approached, but Lightning blasted them all from out of nowhere. Metamorpho left behind Malone, who knocked him self out to claim being attacked by the intruders and preserve his cover, and entered the fray.
They finally claimed all the information they need and tried to exit through the roof, knowing there was a helicopter they could steal, but the guards blew up the vehicle! Simon Stagg and his men, holding RPG launchers, cornered our heroes, but Sapphire put herself between them. Sapphire, knowing that Rex was actually inhuman-looking long before this incident, distracted her father's forces long enough for Rex to change into a glider-like shape to jump off the roof with Lightning and Katana and escape.
In the end, the data was collected, Stagg Enterprises' stock went down very considerably, and Sapphire left her father for trying to kill Rex. However, Stagg still obtained the Republican candidacy out of pity, using the attack as the basis of an anti-metahuman campaign platform.
The Outsider thanked the trio for their assistance, and the money they were owed was paid as promised. Jeff, Tatsu, and Rex agreed to keep in touch, with Jeff saying "We Outsiders need to stick together, right?"
As for Outsider, he disengaged his computer to reveal himself to us as Matthew Malone. But, then he undid the facial prosthesis that he disguised himself with, revealing himself to be Alfred Pennyworth, assistant to Kane International's CEO Bruce Wayne. Bruce had long given up the mantle of The Batman, but it seems that Alfred isn't done fighting injustice yet...
Notes:
* Jefferson Irons Jr. is an amalgamation of Black Lightning and Steel.
** His father, Jeff Sr. was a US military Commander during the Korean War (making him based on Commander Steel)
* The Metal Men here are a group of armor-based heroes, all of whom are young geniuses from different walks of life. They worked with Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and this world's version of the JSA.
** Dr. Will Magnus, who debuted in Absolute Warzone was the leader, wearing the Alloy armor.
** The Metal Men disbanded after the Metal Man Amazing Man (Will Everett) sacrificed his life to save MLK from assassination.
* Tatsu is a half-Korean, half-Japanese woman who use to work for the Yakuza. She is mute due to being mutilated by her former superiors for dishonoring them.
* Rex is a homo magi, AbDC's magic equivalent of Marvel's mutants.
** Rex's head is metal, his left arm is oil, his right stone, his left foot wood, and his right crystal.
** If there was an X-Men for homo magi (there is, but let's save for later), Metamorpho would be Beast.
* See Absolute Purity for more info on Carter being "abducted"...

Few questions:
- So, Martin Luther King is still alive (or died of old age) in this universe?
- Have you ever considerd creating an Absolute DC Fan-Wiki?
- Does Rex Mason always have been like this, or his "homo-magi" factor has been activated sometimes in his life by an artifact or an accident?
- Stagg Steakes are terrific, aren't they? (LOL)
- [Unrelated] There will be an Amalgam beetween Thane (Thanos's son) and Grail (Darkseid's newest daughter) in the New Amalgam series?

- Died of old age.
- Too complex.
- His magi genetics developed in teen years.
- I'll think about it...

Have you considered whipping up a timeline to the Absolute Unverse, just to keep track of the progression of the sequence of events (Little Kal-El must be ready for college at this point XD).

Simon Stagg remembers me to Donald Trump for some reason.

Wow, nice take on the Outsiders! Even sneakier is the nod you have with Alfred's handle being based on his brief time (in the 60's comics) as the Outsider.

Come to think of it--you mention that Amazing Man saved MLK from an assassination. Was it THE assassination that killed King in real life?

Ooh, so there's a JSA here? And a magic team?

The JSA here was 50s-60s era civil rights organisation instead of a hero team.
Spoilers: The magic team is The Shadowpact, and the leader is Doctor Fate.

Hmm, I see. Not quite my cup of tea, but I still look forward to it.
Oh, cool. That should be fun, though I hope some of Shadowpact's more off-beat members make the transition.

Sweet, I'm looking forward to your interpretation of Doctor Fate.
Would it be safe to guess that the introduction of Fate and Shadowpact will be brought in as Nightwing arrives in the US to save Raven?

I'm interested with how this one was inspired. Lots that I didn't expect, but I see it. I think it works

Lightning's costume looks like something that they could use on Arrow or Flash...katana could use something a little more combat suitable, but the regular clothes kinda work on metamorpho

I would think that a really good combatant would know how to fight in an situation, such as while wearing high heels.

True...In fact I know quite a few ladies that could flat out sprint in heels, but I don't think they'd be their first choice when heading to a marathon. Not that all of the costumes I design are mission appropriate...wasn't a criticism, just an observation.
