So after I made this animenerd26.deviantart.com/art… , I started to wonder what would The Lion King II look like had Simba had a son instead of a daughter? Well, for starters, the cast would be different, at least amongst those who are younger than Simba and co. So, were I to make a fanfic of this AU world (which I very well might), this would be the new cast:

Kivu: Name meaning "responsive" in Swahili, Kivu is Kovu's replacement, the adopted daughter of Zira, Shujaa's betrothed, and the younger adopted sister of Shujaa and Mbaya. Unlike her male counterpart, Kivu is much more shy and withdrawn, hating the violent world she was born into. No longer Mother's favorite due to her gender (amongst other things), she is often left to her own devices, and is raised more by her adopted sister Mbaya than by Zira. She is raised to hate the Pridelanders, especially Simba, but everything changes one day when she encounters a certain young Prince...

Chaka: Name meaning "undergrowth" in Swahili, Chaka is Kiara's replacement, the younger brother of Kopa, and the son of Simba and Nala. Chaka is the result of Simba and Nala having to create a new heir, after losing their original heir, Kopa, to Zira's vicious claws. Simba becomes paranoid for his safety after his birth, and ends up coddling him, which unfortunately doesn't leave much room for Chaka to grow and mature into his own lion. He starts his lessons as soon as possible, and the first thing Simba teaches him is how to fight and defend himself, much to Nala's horror. Chaka doesn't appreciate his father's overbearing nature, and often rebels against his father whenever and wherever he can, usually in the form of ditching his simple-minded babysitters, Timon and Pumbaa, to go on an adventure around in the Pride Lands. Naive of how the world works, overconfident in his abilities, and unaware of the true dangers that lurk just outside the boarders, Chaka believes that, as Prince of the Pride Lands, he's practically invincible. After all, his dad's the King, and everything's going to be his someday. However, everything changes one day when he encounters a certain young Outlander...

Shujaa: Name meaning "warrior" in Swahili, Shujaa is Vitani's replacement, the son of Zira and Scar, the younger half-brother of Nala, the younger brother of Mbaya, and the adopted older brother and betrothed of Kivu. Shujaa is the "Chosen One," as the only male of Zira's cubs and as Scar's only (known) surviving son, and it's up to him to kill Simba and his heir and take back the throne in Scar's name. Shujaa relishes in his destiny. He doesn't care so much for the fact that he gets to be king more than the fact that he gets to kill things. Being King of the Pride Lands is just an added bonus to him. Violent by nature, Shujaa lives for war and bloodshed, and is his mother's willing soldier. He would never betray his beloved mother.

Mbaya: Name meaning "ugly" in Swahili, Mbaya is Nuka's replacement, the daughter of Zira and Scar, the younger half-sister of Nala, the older sister of Shujaa, and the older adopted sister of Kivu. Much like her male counterpart, Mbaya is often abused by her mother. She was rejected as a possible heir to Scar's throne, only this time instead of it being because of her scrawny size and assumed idiocy, it was simply due to her gender. Due to this, Zira grew to despise her first born, and gave her the horrible name "Mbaya" after Scar dismissed her. Mbaya does everything in her power to please her mother, but not quite to the same extent as her male counterpart. She does not desire the throne like he does, and only wishes for her mother's love and attention. However, as the years have gone by, she's grown to despise her mother more than love her, despite desperately wishing for her love and attention. When Zira kills her friend Kopa, Mbaya is devistated, and then when Zira ends up barely paying Kivu any attention after the death of both her parents (despite the fact that the young lioness is intended to marry her precious Shujaa in the future), even after "graciously" adopting her, Mbaya becomes furious with Zira. She takes Kivu under her wing, and gives the young lioness the love and attention her own mother never gave her. In the end, she'll do what she believes is best for Kivu first, before her own desires.

Kopa: Name meaning "heart (the card suit)" in Swahili, Kopa is "Fluffy's" replacement, the son of Simba and Nala, and the older brother of Chaka. Kopa is the first born son of Simba and Nala, and is heir to the throne before Chaka. As a cub, he is adventurous and quite mischivous, much like his own parents were when they were his age, but he doesn't quite get into as much trouble as they did. He loves listening to stories, especially those from the past before his birth, and can often be bribed with them. Kopa has many friends throughout his life, including his Aunt Nadra's son Afua, the cheetah cub Beba, the hyrax Pimbi, the monkeys Jambo and Kwaheri, the young vultures calling themselves "The Buzzard Boyz," and even a hyena pup named Asante. He was even friends with Zira's daughter Mbaya at one point. But unfortunately Kopa's life is tragically cut short when he is murdered by Zira in cold blood, in revenge for Scar's death. His death is what causes Simba to exile Zira and her pride to the Out Lands, and what sparks the war between the Outlanders and the Pridelanders. Simba has outlawed mentioning his name or his death, thus leaving his younger brother Chaka oblivious to the fact that he even had an older brother to begin with.
