Description
#noeclipse #thesoundofsilencemovementFor those of you that don't know what's going on, basically DA decided to scrap the old (and better) version of the site for the new "Eclipse" version.
And no one likes this.
For more information, read these journals!
The Sound Of Silence - DA StatementSo Eclipse is Coming
I'd like to organize a proactive even to show DA the possible results of a permanent Eclipse change-over. Instead of deactivating your accounts for good, or indefinitely boycotting the site, I'd like to make a Statement of Silence for those Users against Eclipse. Starting May 1st, I will not be active on Deviantart. I will not submit new deviations, journals or even visit the site for 3 Days time. From May 1st to May 3rd. I ask all all other Users who wish to keep old Deviantart to join me in this statement of silence.
Perhaps the abrupt halt and slow down of site traffic will show DA team members the devastating effects this could have on their audiences they cater to. They have failed to listen when we speak out... perhaps they will listen to The Sound Of Silence.
#TheSoundOfSilenceMovement
Please Feel free to share this journal to get on board and spread the word.
Also, please no negative commentary. This is abou Petition To Keep Old DeviantArtWe need to keep DeviantArt alive and active, at it is the only website some people like myself have.
**GO TO THE FEATURED COMMENT** Sign and Share the Petition!https://chng.it/TK7NWK95vF
I doubt anything will be done about it, but why not? Fuck this shit man. /:
DA is the site I am mainly on. I have a Tumblr, a Toyhouse, and a FurAffinity account, but here is where I do most of my work. And it upsets me that DA is going to change to a "new" version of itself that hardly works when it was fine just the way it was. If you like Eclipse, that's fine, but we should at least have a choice on whether we want to use it or not.
So please, join the fight. Let's show DA that we want it kept the way it's always been.
Feel free to share this.

I still don't understand what is so wrong with eclipse. I was messing around with it today getting all adjusted. They have even put an intro video for all of us explaining and showing off some of the cool new features it's going to have. We're still going to be able to customize a lot of things including a new addition for when we upload something we can give it a background to make it stand out more. I really like that.
I understand that it had a very rocky start but they have polished it up quite nicely. Why are so many freaking out about this? Is it just because it's change or what?
I don't know I feel about them "forcing" people to switch to Eclipse I mean, to be fair they started putting eclipse into effect roughly about a year ago now, since then they have refined it and are getting closer to the official release date. Soooooo we all have had plenty enough time to try and get adjusted and personally i feel the site could use a good update. DeviantART was founded what? In the mid to late 90s and hasn't really had any changes since then? It's time for an update, plus the new system isn't that far off than this one, the new notification system has gotten better since when they first released it where as the start I couldn't respond to notes. I don't have problems finding anything, the only thing I have to get used to really is the normal notifications but even then that's just something that will come over time naturally.

Hi, just to answer your question about why so many people are anti-eclipse, in my opinion, I think it's fine that they are trying to update the site, but it's all too new too fast. Like everything is new from eclipse that when I saw it I didn't even know where to start. Plus we don't have the choice to keep the original. And lots of people have taken extended breaks and came back recently due to suddenly having more free time. For those people there isn't much time to get reacquainted with a new version before they scrap the old one completely. I also like the original cause it's so simple to use. I like that we currently have a choice and I don't understand why they have to take it away. I think That's the thought process many others are having now too.

I suppose that is a fair point, those who are just coming back don't really have a lot of time to get adjusted. Though I remember when I started on da it wasn't easy for me to learn right away, took me a bit of time actually to get used to it. I don't see how Eclipse is different in that regard. I do agree there is a lot about Eclipse that still needs work on, like for a example the friends button has been completely removed which makes finding friends on the website a pain in the ass.
At the same time I believe Eclipse has a lot of potential if the staff really clean up nicely and work on areas that need improvement. I don't think it's right or even fair for so many people to borderline harass some of the stuff over this though or be it something to leave the site over. Take No Mans Sky for example I know that it's a video game vs being a website but it still applies. No Mans Sky was horrendously bad when the game was first released and was not received well at all but over time it became the game it was promised to be and a fair amount of people play it now where as at the start hardly anyone did. And while yes it is up to the developers, creators, etc to have a well working/running platform by launch date, that does not mean a product won't improve over time. Who's not to say da might do the same? I really don't see the idea of basically going on a "strike" for lack of a better word. It's still deviantART and instead of just complaining and yelling at the da staff how about people use constructive criticism instead? I'm sure they would be more likely to listen if they weren't just getting yelled at you know? I guess to me it just seems counterproductive.

I see your point and I do agree with a lot of it. For me and I'm sure others the biggest issue is that it's not the site it should be by launch date, and it's a lot to get adjusted to, though not impossible. That being said harassing the staff isn't useful to anyone, nor is going on "strike". But I also understand people wanting to leave because they don't like the site. At the end of the day it's their choice to stay or go if they don't like something about DA anymore.
And while yes Eclipse has a lot of potential, I also think releasing it prematurely without the option to switch is an issue. Like right now there are flaws like the friends button and so on, so I'm sure a lot of people switch between or stick with the older version. It would be nice if when they remove the older version, Eclipse can be as problem free as possible. I know it can never be perfect, even the old version has flaws, but at least to fix the minor things that make a bigger impact like the friends button, ya know?

Oh I hear you 100% and yes that is true it is their choice. I more of just mean the people who are sticking with the website and are doing that whole "SoundOfSilence" thing. Instead of throwing a tantrum, why not do the opposite of that.
Make a ConstructiveSound or something. Where you can still address problems and concerns but instead of going "oim going to be inactive for 3 weeks"(or whatever it was). You could be spending those three weeks being productive because do people really think the silent treatment is going to make the staff change their minds? I really don't vs if enough of us make enough noise in a positive and constructive way, I think they would be more inclined to listen.
But I do agree there is still a fair amount of things that need to be fixed/edited/added etc. No questions there.

Yeah I completely agree that the "SoundOfSilence" thing achieves nothing. Like I was gone for years cause life, and nothing happened, 3 weeks or however long its gonna be won't do anything either. I think a lot of people are letting their emotions get the better of them. Like my original reply was mainly to point out why some of us are upset, I don't agree with the method chosen to fight back though...unless everyone participated it wouldn't really work and a lot of people aren't gonna participate because, why? Those of us that stay, mad as we are right now, will get over it and wait for Eclipse to improve, or preferably give constructive criticism and be part of the change for the better, and hopefully, it is better then it is now and eventually we'll come to think of it as better the the old version.

I got into an argument twice today with a friend of mine who is also an artist on here. I started explaining to him how I got this idea to start a counter version of the SoundOfSilence and he not only didn't acknowledge at all what I was saying but went into saying "It's a fact the da staff doesn't care not jsut about eclipse but other things." Etc. Which there is a lot of evidence pointing to that but as I said to him I refuse to believe that the entire da staff is that dumb or that cruel. Since I myself has seen changes, good ones over the years.

Lol yeah, while I'm sure there are some who don't care, I can't believe that no one cares, I mean, other wise it would still be a glitchy prototype of when it first launched. But I suppose people tend to not see reason when they let their emotions get the better of them. I'm sure a lot of people protesting with the SoundOfSilence will soon come around to the idea of, while the way they are doing it couldve been better, it also could've been worse, and that there is a better way to voice our opinions then a silent temper tantrum....at least I hope so...I miss the da when there was no "I'm leaving cause of Eclipse" or the "SoundOfSilence movement, join us!"...I just want it to go back to people getting to know other artists through art XD

Same here and its really nice to meet someone who feels the same as I do. Its a nice break from all the chaos that's da right now.
Hell this is what deviantart should be.

Same here, Some artists I follow have posted journals about keeping them out of it/not partaking, but still a lot of people are mad and posting about being inactive for a period of time and urging others to do so as well. In a way that makes me more mad then Eclipse. Like what is being inactive benefiting?
And I wholly agree, I miss deviantart being this XD. I miss being able to talk about something with others and not have it turn into an argument about Eclipse Vs. Old DA. It would be nice if we can all just be more constructive imo.
