Description
Each of the lions in the major kingdoms have different features and attributes that are common amongst different members of the pride. They show up frequently enough through breeding within the pride or with lions with similar features outside of the pride that they become common place amongst members of the pride. Sometimes the attributes apply to most members, while othertimes they may only apply to the royal family and those decended from the royal family. These are some (though not all) of the prides in my TLK-verse and their attributes, so as to give you an idea on how it work.Pride Lands - Pride Rock Pride
The Pridelanders generally tend to have a stocky build to them. Fur color ranges from pale tan to a dusty golden color with the underpelt almost always being lighter than the main pelt and paws commonly being gloved, though ungloved is not unheard of. Tail tufts and mane colors range from dark brown to red with males, and they tend to have large, full noses that range from brown to pink. Their claws tend to remain sheathed unless needed, and the inner ear is usually darker than the mane pelt. Ear rings are a common trait found amongst members of the pride, with males sometimes losing them as they age while females gain them, though this does not always occur. Another trait that was once common, but is slowly fading out, are beauty marks, particularly near or under the eye. Eye shades tend to be dark on top and light on the bottom, with eyelids sometimes being darker than the top part of the eye ring, making it stand out. Males tend to have fluffy cheeks and develope them as they age, while females do not. Common eye colors range from orange to red, though gold is not uncommon either.
Wild Lands - Wild Pride
The Wildlanders share many features in common with their close neighbors, the Pridelanders, due to once being one pride a long time ago before lion kingdoms had been established. However, there are some notable differences due to generations of being seperated. While their pelts also range from tan to gold, theirs tend to be a bit brighter than their Pridelander counterparts. Gloved paws also tend to go all the way to the paw pads, while Pridelander gloved paws just stop at the toes, generally. Stripes are not uncommon amongst the Wildlanders. Females sometimes develope fluffy cheeks and head tufts, though not always, and males have been known to grow beards and mane colored elbow tufts. Eye shades that are the same color top and bottom are also common, with it usually being darker than the mane pelt, though it isn't uncommon to see the top dark than the mane pelt while the bottom is lighter, either. Noses tend to be full and black, and inner ears tend to be darker than the main pelt. Inner ear rings are common, but it's just as common to see a Wildlander without any markings on their ears at all. Mane and tail tuft colors range from brown to red, and eye color ranges from green to blue.
East and West Sun Lands - Sunrise Pride and Sunset Pride
The Sunrise Pride and Sunset Pride are very much alike in appearances. Once one larger kingdom simply known as the Sun Lands, the pride split into two after a civil war between two brothers, though in recent times the fighting has merely been reduced to petty prey theft and boarder squabbles. Cross breeding between the two prides is not uncommon, hence why the two remain to appear similar in appearances. Sunlanders as a whole tend to be big and bulky, even by lion standards, towering over their smaller neighbors. Their pelts range from a verity of different shades of bright golds and tans (which is where they get their names from due to looking like rays of sunlight) with the under fur lighter than their main pelt. East Sunlanders tend to be slightly lighter and paler than their West Sunlander counterparts, and East Sunlanders tend to have more reddish brown to golden eye colors while the West Sunlanders tend to have more blues and greens. However, that's about as much difference as you're going to see between the two prides. Sunlanders as a whole commonly have dark manes and tail tufts in contrast to their pelts, ranging from browns to black, and duel to triple mane colors have been seen amongst them. Dipped eye shades are common, and hooked and full noses are equally as common amongst them as well as a verity of different nose colors. Inner ear colors can also be either light or dark, and inner ear rings are common as well, though outer ear rings not as much. Many lions have freckles, particularly lionesses, and ungloved paws are also common amongst the lionesses. Claws tend to remain sheathed unless in battle, and males tend to have fluffy cheeks and mane colored elbow tufts (though not always).
Rock Lands - Crystal Cave Pride
The Rocklanders are a very interesting pride of lions, in both culture and appearances. While they have territory on land that is of average size, their true claim to fame is their territory below ground. Making their home in a humongous cave system underground that is covered in many crystals of different shapes and sizes, the Crystal Cave Pride easily boasts having the largest territory in Africa. It is this cave system that has changed them into what they look like today. The common body type for the Rock Land lions is skinny yet muscular, so as to be able to traverse through their rough underground terrain. Paw pads are hard and rough, and claws are generally kept unsheathed (not pictured). Pelts are dark, ranging from a reddish brown to a dark, dark brown so as to blend in to the shadows of the caves more, and the underpelt is generally lighter than their mane pelt. If they have gloved paws, only the front paws are ever gloved, but ungloved paws are also fairly common. What's most unique about these lions is that only the bottom part of their muzzles are underpelt colored. The top part is always the color of the main fur. Eye shades range from dark on top and light on bottom to all light and the same color, and eye color ranges from red to orange. Noses range from grayish brown to pink, but black is not uncommon. Ear rings are also not uncommon, and inner ears tend to be darker than the main pelt. Both females and males sport fluffy cheeks, and will also sometimes sport fluffy chin tufts, though rarely full-out beards. The mane and tail tuft is always lighter than the pelt, ranging from reddish orange to blonde.
Cliff Lands - Valley Pride
The Clifflanders are related to the Rocklanders, having broken off from them not long after their formation. Hence they are similar in appearances to their neighbors, but not completely the same, especially since the Clifflanders and Rocklanders do not get along at all and generally do not interbreed with eachother unless a Clifflander female escapes to the Rock Lands or a Clifflander male captures a Rocklander female. Like the Rocklanders, Clifflanders sport skinny, muscular bodies to help them navigate the cliffs and ridges that make up their home. They also keep their claws unsheathed (not pictured) for this reason as well. Their fur is dark, but not nearly as dark as their Rocklander cousins, and chin tufts, cheek tufts, and elbow tufts are common, especially amongst males. Unlike the Rocklanders, their manes and tail tufts tend to be darker than their pelts. Their eye shades can either be completey dark, or be dark on bottom and light on top. Ear strips and freckles are common, as are head stripes, and their eye colors range from blue to green, though orange is not uncommon. Hooked noses are the most common type of nose, either being black or brownish pink. What's really interesting about these lions is that their bellys tend to be the same color as their main fur. It's rare for this to not be so, and usually only happens when they mate with an outsider.
The White Shadows
The White Shadows are a unique pride in that they don't have a territory of their own to call home and are a pride of lions exclusively of white or nearly white lions. Any lion born in their pride that is deemed to be "not white enough" is ejected from the pride once they reach young adulthood, though if the ejected lion or lioness have any white or near white children, those cubs are welcome to rejoin the pride. Because they can and do mate with outsiders, a verity of different traits pop up amongst the White Shadows, so it's difficult to say which trait is exclusive to them and what isn't. The main thing about the White Shadows is that they only accept white or nearly white lions amongst their rank. Anyone else - well, tough luck.
Grass Lands - Green Grass Pride
The Grasslanders are another close neighbor of the Pridelanders who, like the Wildlanders, also share distant roots with them. However, they do have differences that can be noted from their Pridelander and Wildlander counterparts due to generations of being separated. Grasslanders tend to be smaller than their neighbors, but still retain their bulkiness. Their pelt colors range from cream to tan, sometimes with tints of orange in their fur, and gold, though less common than cream and tan, is not uncommon either. Inner ear rings are common, as are full noses ranging from brown to pink. Eye color ranges from anywhere from red to blue, and gloved paws are just as common as ungloved. Mane and tail tuft color ranges from brown to reddish orange, and fluffy cheeks are common on males. Eye shades that are dark on top and light on bottom, or different shades of light on top and bottom, are common as well, but fully dark eye shades are uncommon.
Storm Lands - Ocean Pride
The Stormlanders are a fierce, seafaring people that make their home on an island just off the coast of Africa. Often swimming to-and-from the island to the mainland for food and supplies, their main diet is fish, hence their sleek bodies and pelts. Their pelts range anywhere from a pale brown to a reddish orange, and their underpelts are lighter than their main pelts. They often keep their claws unsheathed (not pictured), and full and hooked noses are equally distributed amongst the members of the pride. Noses tend to be pinkish brown to gray brown, with black being less common but still seen. Their gloved paws also reach all the way to their paw pads instead of just stopping at the toes. Different shades of blue are the most common of eye color, though green isn't uncommon either. Duel mane and tail tuft colors are also common, and females and males tend to have scruffy chins, with males sometimes having full out beards. Cheek tufts are common, especially amongst males. Eye shades tend to be light, and dipped eye shades are most common. What really makes these lions stand out are their mane and tail tuft colored ear tufts. Almost every member of the pride bares them.
Coast Lands - Beach Pride
Before the death of their last king, Nguvu, and their integration into the Pride Lands, the Coast Lands were once a proud, prosperous kingdom that had it's own diverse set of lion genetics. Head stripes, ear rings, and freckles were very common amongst these people. Pelt colors ranged from pale, dusty brown to tan. They had full noses and eye colors that ranged from red to orange. It was also common to see small head tufts on females, though generally only males had cheek tufts. Mane and tail colors generally ranged from different shades of brown with the occational dark gold splashed in. They also had large, bulky bodies, dwarfing many lions. Only the Sun Lands tended to have lions bigger than them.
River Lands - River Pride
The Riverlanders are a pride of lions that make their home near a large river that snakes through their territory. Their pelts are generally different shades of tan, and their bodies are fairly lean. Mane and tail-tip colors generally range from different shades of brown, and many males tend to have mane-colored cheek tufts. Eye colors range from blue to green, and eye shades are generally lighter than the main pelt. Noses are full and usually pink in color. Most Riverlanders have ungloved paws, and lighter inner ears.
Gale Lands - Breeze Pride
The Galelanders make are a pride of lions that make their home out on the open plains. There are little trees out where they live, and the wind blows constantly around them due to the fact that there is often little to nothing to block it's path. Their pelts range from pale tan to gold, with light manes and tail tuffs so they blend in with their environment easier. Ear strips are common, especially amongst females. Hooked and full noses are equally common amongst this pride that range from pink to brown in color. They have long legs and muscular bodies, and eyes can range from anywhere from blue to red. The top part of the eye shade is generally darker than the mane pelt, while the bottom part is generally lighter, and most Gale Landers have gloved paws. What makes this pride unique is that almost every member of this pride has a very light to white chin, which marks them from other lion prides.
Green Lands - Oasis Pride
The Greenlanders are a fairly new pride of lions that make their home in a small jungle oasis that boarders a large desert, however lions have lived in these lands for generations either in small familial groups or alone before the pride's establishment. It's only been recently that these lions have all been brought together as one by a lioness named Fomali (with some help from her family, some meerkats, a warthog, and a couple of leopards). Greenlanders come in many shapes and sizes with many eye colors, however what sets these lions apart from others are the fact that many of these lions have pelt colored bellies and dark ears. Some of them also have the upper part of their muzzle pelt colored as well.
Jungle Lands - Jungle Pride
The Junglelanders live deep in a fairly large jungle, away from most other lion prides. They're known to be reclusive, though not overly hostile as long as you show the proper respect for their pride and their home. These lions are rumored to be descendants of the Marozi lions, due to their spotted pelts. Their pelts are very dark, to blend in with the jungle shadows, and they have very slim bodies so they can easily climb the trees of their jungle home. Their claws are constantly unsheathed (not shown), and hooked noses are extreamly common. Their noses are generally dark in color. Eyes range from gold to red, and paws are most commonly pelt colored. Head stripes are also common, especially amongst females. It's also common for males to grow beards, and for females to have chin tufts. Ear rings are also common.
Lake Lands - Lakeside Pride
The Lakelanders live in a valley by a large lake, surrounded by many smaller creeks and watering holes. Many water buffalo make their home here, thus they are very adapt at hunting this large and dangerous animal. They have bulky and muscular bodies, with pelts ranging from tan to light reddish brown. Eyes range from blue to green, with full noses ranging from pink to brown the most common. Eyeshades tend to be light or dark on top and light on the bottom, and ear rings are common. What makes this pride stand out is that almost every member has spots either under their eyes, on their ears, or both under their eyes and on their ears.
The Tsavos
The Tsavos aren't really a kingdom, but rather multiple small nomadic prides, familial groups, and individuals that live in the desert that, for the most part, still live by the Old Ways due to the harsh conditions of their environment. They're constantly on the move, and rarely stay in one place for more than a week so as not to use up that place's precious resources. Tsavos tend to be small and skinny, with large, wide paws to help them navigate on hot, shifting sands. Many keep their claws unsheathed (not shown), simply because one can never be sure when an opponant will make themselves known. Males never grow a full mane, and it's not unheard of for a male not to grow a mane at all. Ear rings and ear strips are common, as are dots under the eyes and darker markings on the nose bridge. It is common for Tsavos to have pelt colored chins. Most Tsavos have hooked noses that can range from pink to black, and almost all Tsavos have light fur and eyes. Any Tsavos born with dark fur are either left to die or killed by the mother - they will not survive the harshness of the desert, as their dark fur will cause them to overheat and die. The same goes with any sort of birth defects or anything seen as a defect, such as a lioness growing a mane or a cub being born hunchbacked or bowlegged. Weakness is not tolerated amongst the Tsavos.
High Lands - Mountain Pride
The Highlanders are unique in that they live almost exclusively up in the mountains, only coming down to hunt large prey or deal with other prides. As such, they've developed into very unique looking lions to deal with the harsh weather of the mountains. Highlanders are large and bulky, with very thick, nearly white to white fur. The males' manes tend to nearly cover their entire backs, and both male and females tend to have elbow tufts. It's also common for females to have head tufts, and almost all Highlanders have pelt colored ear tufts. Highlanders have light eyes and dark belly fur and eye rings. Ear rings are also common. Their noses are equally common between hooked and full, and are usually a dark brown to black color.
Low Lands - Piercing Gaze Pride
The Lowlanders live at the bottom of the mountain the Highlanders live on. Their lands consist of multiple small, dipping valleys that tend to run together. They're of average hight with bulky bodies, with fur that ranges from different shades of browns and golds. They often have markings on their faces that are darker than their mane pelt that start on their nosebridge, and can either go up and back onto the neck like a stripe or stop on the nosebridge. Some Lowlanders also have belly fur that is darker than their mane pelt, and ear rings and inner ear rings are common amongst these lions. Their noses are equal between hooked and full, and range between pink to black in color. What also causes these lions to stand out from other lions are their eyes. Almost all lions of Lowlander descent have eyes that range from blue to green, with the whites of their eyes taking on a greenish hue instead of the normal yellow. This developement allows these lions to have the best eyesight compared to the rest of their lion bretheren, allowing them to see longer distances and easier in the dark. Of course, their eyes also unintentionally gives them a piercing gaze which tends to creep other lions and animals out, hence their pride name.
Marsh Lands - Misty Rain Pride
The Marshlanders are very much a mystery, as they live deep in a marsh surrounded by a jungle, thus they are even more reclusive than the reclusive Junglelanders. In fact, so little is known about them that many lions believe them to be a myth. They make their home by a river that weaves through the jungle. Due to being seperated from other lions for so long, they've evolved many different kinds of unqiue markings that appear on their fur, both dark and light. They also have eyes that range range from gold to red, though blue and green are not uncommon either, and their noses can either be hooked or full, with colors ranging from pink to blue to black. However, what makes this pride the most unique is their fur. All members have fur with a bluish hue to it. No one knows how or why this came to be, but if you manage to come across this elusive pride and manage to ask them yourself, they will tell you it is because the Goddess of the River and Rains has blessed them with pelts of such hues. The darker and more blue, the more blessed one is by the River Goddess.

EDIT: Renamed the Falling Water Pride. Didn't like their name (still kinda don't, so it might change again
NOTES: Whew! This took me awhile to do. This is kinda for me, but others can use it too, if they want. Basically it's a guide for the major attributes seen in the kingdoms that are most commonly mentioned or most important prides in my TLK-verse. Kinda got a little lazy half-way through because I was getting tired at this point, but hey, it's a lot!

I may keep my blue Uru for an AU...but if she was in the Misty Rain pride...how would she stand? Her coat is pale, but blue and she has colored areas that are blue too (and her eyes are blue too)...

She’d be a respected member of the pride. Lighter pelt colors are a more recessive trait, so she might get a few odd looks, but they wouldn’t treat her any differently. And the more blue the better.

If you like...you have permission to use her for your TLK stories ^^. You have done so much for me and...well I am curious to see what you may be able to do with her. Think of it as being a co-ownership. She is still my character, but you can give her a mate, friends and family, children...you can also give her a new name (I may adopt it if I like it enough . Kind of what to call her Ikuseghan 'Peace surpasses war').
But...now that I look at this in full...what about Waovu? His markings kind of seem similar to the Misty Rain, but he is not blue...nor does he have light colored areas and I suspect his practices are very different from theirs.

Thank you. I may very well add her into my TLK world.
As for Waovu, he's the king of the Black Lands and a decendant of Dubwana's. He's leader of the pride that worships Dubwana and her coven (not sure what to call their pride yet, maybe the Cannibal Pride or the Scarred Pride). They practice ritualistic scarring, cannibalism, and slavery. And no, it certainly wasn't always like this. It shifted to what it is today after the eruption of the volcano that decimated most of their pride and the land around them. It took a long time for the lands to recover enough to sustain stable plant life for prey to feed on, even long to substain herds, so often times the survivors often had to resort to cannibalism to survive, even attacking other prides to kidnap their young and weak for food. They also thought cannibalism was a way to bring themselves closer to their Goddess Dubwana, as they knew she feasted on blood. Eventually that turned into keeping some of those they kidnapped into slaves (as well as a food source). They rarely go on raids anymore, but they're still feared by the surrounding prides and heavily discriminated against. Rogues that trespass are still known to go missing, and those that manage to escape have told the world terrible tales of the pride of religious cannibals who worship the vilest, cruelest of demons.
Dubwana is not happy about what has became of her former pride and her decendants, but she doesn't want to risk exposure by revealing herself or her coven to try and fix things, so she tries to help their victims as much as she can from the shadows. Cubs are spirited away to safety, the lions set up for sacrifice or just food in general are given quick, merciful deaths when no one is looking (as they usually drag out the process), slaves are mysteriously given an extra ration or two of food and water...She does what she can. It's gotten to the point where many of the slaves that live amongst the pride believe her to be a Goddess as well, but not in the same sense as the rest of the pride. Free Blacklanders believe her to be a Goddess of both Life and Destruction - someone who can give life and just as easily take it away on a whim. But the slaves believe her to be a Goddess of Love, Hope, and Mercy - someone who cares for those who are lesser as if they were her own cubs, like a mother. In a way, they're both right, though she's no Goddess.

Not gonna lie, if I like the name you used then I will probably use it too...I have a long list of names recorded, but I am always looking for new names to add (you never know when you may use them...I use them for lions, but also for dragons).
Wow...an interesting pride with rather gruesome ideas. But maybe the volcano eruption is to blame...do they often hold sacrifices in attempt to prevent another eruption? If they worship Dubwana...I suppose they believe she controls the volcano then…
Are the Black landers open to breeding with outsiders?
In the end this is one story that is very interesting.

They breed with their slaves sometimes, but rarely with outsiders. Outsiders are either captured and used for food/hard labor, or they’ll try and kill them outright on sight.

I am curious, is Malka from the Stormlands or is his father from this pride? The tufted ears has caught my eye. And how would Rani's pride fit into all of this?

Malka's dad is either a current or former member of the Storm Lands, or has Storm Land ancestory which he passed onto Malka. Either way, he's not in the picture, as his mating with Kabisa was a one-time thing, and Kabisa is just fine with that. As for Rani's pride, I won't know yet until Rani herself shows up in TLG. But likely they started off as part of one of these prides before becoming a pride of their own. Perhaps Rani's pride are reminants of the Coastlanders that didn't merge with the Pridelanders and decided to form their own pride somewhere else after the Coast Lands dissolved, or maybe they started out as escaped females from the Cliff Lands who formed their own pride.
