"I thought he'd been deputy for long enough. All I succeeded in doing was getting us both killed."

So I finished reading A Light in the Mist, and oh boy, it was good! We actually got to see why some of the Dark Forest cats ended up in the Place of No Stars in the first place. Or, well, at least two of them.

*SPOILERS*

Maggottail was a ShadowClan cat who tried to pull a Tigerstar and kill his leader so he could be leader, but failed. And Silverhawk also tried to kill his leader, but surprisingly not for himself but for his son, who had been deputy at the time. Though he doesn't go into detail, it sounds like he tried to off his leader, got caught, and ended up getting both himself and his son (who may or may not have been an innocent in all this, though I believe he was innocent and had no idea what his dad was planning) executed for treason.

Personally, I think that's a really interesting and unique motive, and it's made Silverhawk into one of my favorite Dark Forest cats (alongside poor Snowtuft, RIP my precious boy).
