Description
Taken on the 13th of September 2014BB18 1/4 class pacific No.1079 is seen emerging from the tunnel on the way home from the Laidley spring fair.
After a lengthy absence due to the council deciding to discontinue the trip, citing its cost and the 'lack of interest' from locals it has been proved that the 'lack of interest' didn't exist as it was locals and businesses that brought the yearly excursion back and it was the highlight of the day.

A variety of features, most notably the knuckle coupler and the large, bright headlight mounted on the smoke box door, make this loco look like it was built in North America.
Any idea who built it?

The first 35 of the class came out from England, built by the Vulcan Foundry to, IIRC, an improved design of an earlier class (designed here in Queensland I think) and the another 20 from Walkers Ltd of Maryborough in Northern Queensland. The knuckle couplers have been a post-desielization thing and has only really happened across the fleet of heritage locos in the last decade or so.
Here is a good quality video of it operating on the same excursion as this photo. I never got to shoot video because i was too busy trying to get photos. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSVzgo…
Any other questions i will try to answer to the best of my ability

Then the other key feature must be the un-European rectangular windows on the front of the cab. They just don't look British. Also, the design of the smokebox door looks far more American than European.
Thanks for the info.

I think the design had influences of both, with a good dose of Australian mixed in.
